    Mr. Lee: Beating online casinos?

How much can I expect to make if I were to invest a few thousand? Just say for example to double or make half of it?

It is impossible to answer such a vague question. There are a number of ways to make money at online casinos. A few years ago, "bonus hustling" was the big thing. You sign up at online casinos offering juicy bonuses, play basic strategy flat-bet blackjack for the minimum number of hands required to cash in the bonus, and move on to the next one.

However, the casinos have now greatly tightened up their requirements for cashing the bonuses. It is still possible to make money at this, but it is not nearly as lucrative as it once was.

Other advantage opportunities exist in online poker and sports betting.

Online play is really outside of the focus of this forum

    Trapper: online casinos (long)

I am sure others on this site have more experience in the field but I've put in a few hours of internet casino play and have had a bit of success. I think that online play/bonus hunting is still a great way to build a bankroll. Much easier and less risky than card counting in bricks and mortar casinos with the kind of micro bankroll you mentioned. All you need is solid basic strategy and some good research to find reputable online casinos. There is no reason that you shouldn't make many times your original investment if you take a few precautions. Eventually, easy opportunities will begin to dry up.

There are several web boards which have good information and recommend sites. Blackjackforumonline.com, wizardofodds.com and casinomeister.com are a few of the better examples but there are many. Be careful though. All of these sites earn income from online casinos they recommend. Norm has a good site as well. I don't think he updates it but it has some useful advice. It's on his BJStats site. If you put in the effort you will soon get an idea of the best approach to take. Some internet casinos are offshoots of land based sports books and casinos and are licensed and regulated in places like the UK, Australia, and New Zealand; other online casinos are probably run out of shacks in the Caribbean by extremely unsavoury characters.

There are different bonuses. Cashable bonuses are the ones you want to hit at your level. Sticky bonuses have value but require a larger bankroll than the one you mentioned. You will be making deposits of $50 to $200 with match bonuses so you may want to start out with about $500 to $1000 or so. Your earnings will depend on how much of the bonus you manage to keep after the house edge and standard deviation have their way with you. The country you live in will also have an effect on the value of the offers available. US players are barred from many of the better UK casinos for instance.

You might want to look at Bill Haywood's book BeatWebCasinos.Com. It is five years old and, as Parker wrote, wagering requirements are tougher and the players in the online casino industry have changed in the last few years but not much has really changed in the strategy of bonus hustling.

As for online poker and sports betting, there appears to be excellent opportunities for advantage players willing to put in the effort at studying up on those fields. Online poker apparently is a lucrative opportunity for skilled poker players who can take advantage of the influx of poker fans caught up in the Texas Hold em craze but for the unskilled it is probably best avoided. The idea is to be the fisher and not the fish. For someone who is primarily interested in building a blackjack bankroll for eventual offline use with the least amount of effort, you are probably better off sticking with bonus hunting.

You can be barred from online play and there are blacklists of bonus abusers. Common sense is the best guide to extending your welcome. Try to look like you aren't milking the sign up bonuses (which of course you are). Don't be greedy. Bet more than the minimum amount to meet wagering requirements. Vary your bet amounts. The more you look like a gambler, the less likely you are to be blacklisted and the more likely you are to receive further offers and monthly bonuses. Be flexible. Don't be too focused on blackjack. Sometimes other casino games may offer better returns than blackjack depending on the particular wagering requirements. Read the terms and condition of all the bonus offers very carefully, keep meticulous records of your deposits, withdrawals and action. Most importantly choose the casinos you play at carefully. You are giving up control and your avenues of recourse are few.
Good luck if you decide to try it.

Paypal won't deal with online casinos. Many US credit card companies won't either so you will likely end up using something like Neteller. Neteller is similar to Paypal. Citadel and Firepay are other options. You may want more than one since some casinos offer easier wager requirements for one payment system or another.
