VerdugoJohn: Times Disc Channel - Tommy Hyland appears again!!

Times Discovery Channel's episode of Casino Diaries has an appearance by the real Tommy Hyland...the show aired last night and will be repeated at 5pm eastern time today.

It follows the surveillance supervisor at the Hard Rock Las Vegas, and Tommy Hyland comes in to play...Tommy is backed off on camera after losing $7000, and speaks after leaving the casino. (IMHO this seems to me as a made for TV event but you may enjoy seeing the electronics as well as the real Mr. Hyland)

With the below thread on the History Channel and now this, I think Mr. Hyland is a rival to Ben Affleck for media exposure ;-) ...

Anyway, here is the information from Times Discovery about the show...

    Casino Diaries
    Cat and Mouse

In the many games played out in the casino, none are more fascinating than the game of "cat and mouse" played out between professional gamblers and the casino's surveillance teams. The Surveillence Manager puts his wits against casino rip-off artists.

I remember seeing this when it originally aired. I seem to recall hearing that while Hyland obviously went in and played while the film crew was there with the intention of getting backed off, surveillance was not in on it. Note that it takes them an hour to identify Hyland, who is probably the highest profile card counter since Ken Uston. Also, if you listen closely, you can hear one of the surveillance people in the background saying, "Tommy Hyland - holy sh*t!"

bigplayer: Tommy wasn't in on it

beforehand...he just happened to go in and play while they were filming and got nailed. It wasn't pre-planned at all.

Brick: Tommy's attempt to get barred.

Is this show a repeat? If so I watched it a couple of years ago. Tommy was talking about how he gets barred for counting cards. He then attempts to get barred on purpose as the hidden camera follows him from casino to casino. Oddly enough after making an attempt to get barred spreading $100 to $2000, he had to visit several casinos before his wish was granted. It was not a case of him walking in the first casino and getting nailed. Imagine that,.. Tommy the great had a difficult time trying to get barred on purpose.

After reading John's post,I realize this was a different show and find it hard to believe Tommy magically appears at the same time the crew was filming. It's all nothing but hollywood acts. Hyland's trying to be a famous movie star or something.

.. my intuition is to believe what 'bigplayer' states is fact.

any individual is 100% correct all the time, regardless of who they are. It narrows the mind and expansion of humanity. BP has his opinion and I have one also. I certainly dont think BP feels I disrepseceted him. So with all due respect, did I disrespect you by not agreeing with bigplayer?

Nor do I. But I have found bigplayer to be correct most of the time. I also have observed he dosen't post (especially here) just to be flapping his jaw. Therefore he gets the initial benefit of any doubt with me.

    > BP has his opinion and I have one also.

Again, you stated you are working on opinion only. My intution is that he is working with fact. Of course, I could be wrong.

    > I certainly don't think BP feels I disrepseceted him.

I'm sure he does not. You were just expressing an opinion, as was I.

    > So with all due respect, did I disrespect you
    > by not agreeing with bigplayer?

    Of course not.

It's hard to disrespect me anyway .. I'm not all that respectful in the first place.

    Brick: Information

You do have a unique way of making people flap jaws Even if BP got information from a friend or heard it from a little birdie,I still find this hard to believe. The odds says there is a very slim chance that Tommy inadvertantly walks in the same casino while the show is being made and I always bet on the odds. Dont you also find it strange that Tommy made a previous film (with probably the same crew) and he now has nothing to do with this one?

I would normally agree that Tommy Hyland walking into the casino right when they just happened to be filming would be a huge coincidence, hence my comments earlier in the thread.

However, (and here I have the advantage of knowing BP personally), I don't think that BP would have taken the time to make his post if he did not have reliable information, quite possibly from Hyland himself.

Me too. And Brick, I would take your odds bet everyday, I agree with you 100%, except ...

... that is all I'm trying to say. I don't know BP personally. But watching and listening to him post, I'm betting on his 'tell.'

He just dosen't run his mouth for the sake of hearing himself speak .. like I do.

Well anything is possible. BP has not replied to my comments. It's quite possible he may feel his source of info is in question
