Robert: Hi-Lo Index Play & 2 Deck Vegas Games

Headed to Vegas this weekend for 2 deck games.....

In the midwest I Wong 6 deck shoes, DDAS, S17.....this amounts to 80% of my play per year.

In Vegas, the remaining 20% of my play, is 2 decks, DDAS mostly, and H17, except for the Plaza!

I have memorized 30+ index plays....combining the index plays for those from Wong Prof. BJ, and BJ Attack, 2nd edition. But I use the same set of index plays at shoe and DD games, the only variation is the differences on Soft 17 and Hard 17....i.e., the H17 index plays are excusively for double deck, per the above, the remainder are all the shoe indices, or tilted that way. As you can imagine, my index plays are somewhat off when I play double deck, except the plays against hitting soft 17.

Wanted to know the index I should use for splitting 9-9 vs dealer Ace?....BJA 2nd edition doesn't even have that one. Wanted one index for 9-9 for Soft 17, and another index for Hit S17, based on the above percentages of play in shoe and double deck games.

Lastly, I have the Feb 2005 edition of CBJN....there are 4 or 5 deeply dealt (67%+) double deck downtown casinos listed, and the 2 deck game out at the Suncoast....For those of you that have this issue, are there other games I should consider, and are those as good as listed?

    Thanks, Tom

I assume you mean Hi-Lo indexes. According to my calculation for S17 with DAS you should split when the index is +4.45. For H17 with DAS you should split when the index is +2.65. The reasonable explanation for the difference is that the player standing on 9-9 (18 points) is not as good if the dealer hits on soft 17. The dealer is always losing if standing on soft 17 (S17 game, dealer 17 vs player 18). But if the dealer is allowed to hit on soft 17, there is a good chance that the player will lose when standing on 18. On the other hand, the player's splitting 9-9 has about equal chance (very close) of winning on S17 and H17 games. That's why you split on lower index number for H17 game (because standing has higher chance of losing).
