    Alan: Multiplayer blackjack software

I've been playing blackjack for 3 years now and want to get my friends into it, too. But I want to be able to play the game and have them play at the same time. This would be a great wait to motivate them and allow me to participate at the same time.

I've got all the Casino Verite products, and as far as I can ascertain, CVBJ3 only allows one human player at a time. (I could be wrong.)

I'd appreciate recommendations on a multiplayer equivalent of CVBJ3 if such a thing exists.

    Thanks.

CV only supports multiplayer in tournament mode. I have thought about adding the capability in normal mode; but I haven't seen much demand. The problem is multiplayer drastically slows the game as you pass around the mouse or keyboard. I've also considered allowing multiplayer over the 'Net. This is a bit more convenient; but still a very slow method of practice. Suggestions in this area are welcome.

What I intend to do is use more than one infra red mouse and keyboard, which would solve the "pass the mouse" problem.

The CVBJ software is without parallel, as far as I'm concerned, but I really need something that allows multiplayer functionality now (apart from tournament mode).

CVBJ3, as a multiplayer program, would enable me to train my friends how to play, by example and by hands on experience, without losing money in the process or trying to disguise the fact that we are counting. It would be an ideal tool for this purpose.

Blackjack is a lonely sport at the best of times, but by adding a social aspect to the learning of the game, I could get more people to share in my interest (passion) and help turn them into skilled players, too.

I realise that turning CVBJ into a multiplayer system must be fraught with immense difficulties, unless everyone uses the same counting system, but even this would be a fabulous start.

What CVBJ has going for it is its endless flexibility in terms of parameter settings, and a sense of graphic realism which I also haven't found anywhere else, and this really adds feel of the game.

    Thanks for your response, Norm.

It isn't all that difficult to add since tournament mode allows it. I'll keep it in mind as I work on V4.

    That's wonderful.

Can you perhaps suggest something else I can use in the meantime?

Version 4 is a long way off, I assume.

Yes, but it will add a host of others. Had lots of fun here with the IR and RF keyboard/mice that gateway used to sell. Haven't had fun until students decide to "test the system".

Forget multiple keyboards/mice on one computer. First thing you know those keyboards/mice will be inserted in painful bodily orifices.

Well I play multiplayer with my girlie on my laptop. She uses the mousepad and I use another mouse.

When sometimes using the "big" machine we use "Game Commander" and use voice commands which can be a bit of fun because it is like talking to the dealer.

I couldn't imagine it being too slow over a LAN. It is relatively easy to set one up these days. It might be nice if you had friends over that brought their laptops with CV and did a little practicing with them. Just a thought.

The slowness comes not from communications but the awkwardness of multiple people. A sole player can play hundreds of hands a minute forcing himself to think at vastly a higher rate than possible in a casino. That's one of the benefits of using a practice tool. You lose much of that benefit when you insert multiple humans.

Yes. Afraid I haven't looked at any other software in a couple of years.

I think the ideal multiplayer BJ game would be far different from CVBJ.

    1. wireless LAN.

    2. Server that deals and manages money.

    3. users log in from a wireless laptop, and get to see their hands (along with all the others) on their display, they use their mouse/scratchpad/jstick/whatever pointing device to play.

That way they can wong in and out, etc.

Sounds like a really cool idea. Perhaps the client side built into CVBJ would be slick, with the server part (no graphics or anything, and it could run on someone's laptop as a second process) would/could be a separate add-on component for anyone interested..

I'd personally buy that in a heartbeat. My wife and I have laptops, as does my brother and his wife. I can see us sitting around the kitchen table with four laptops playing BJ rather than fiddling with shuffling, counting chips, knocking 'em on the floor, borrowing from the bank, and so forth.

Queue me up for order #1.

Which BJ software do you use for multiplayer?
