    thall: software programs

OK, I'm ready to pull the trigger on one. I've been semi-dormant in bj for 10 yrs (been to LV 4-5 times) and am feeling a little unsure of myself regarding precise indexes and betting correlations. Always used RPC but would like a program to track my play thru thousands of hands, and point out errors in play and bets. Though mostly this is to be sure my indexes are accurate, I'm also wanting to maximize my gain and eliminate possible counting errors. Which software program would do the trick.....?

If you want to practice in a realistic environment, keep detailed statistics on our sessions, be notified when you make an error, and a whole lot more, then you really have only one choice: Casino Verite. As a bonus, you also get a suite of drill programs for refining varous aspects of your game. You also get a casino database, and can even import data directly from TrackJack (if you have a TrackJack subscription). You can find my full review of Casino Verite in the Blackjack Library, or use the direct link below.

To run sims and generate indices, you will CVData.

To calculate Risk of Ruin and optimal betting ramps, and much much more, CVCX is just the ticket.

These are all products of Qfit software, and you can count on developer Norm Wattenberger to provide excellent support if you should have any problems. He also has a liberal upgrade policy when he comes out with a newer version.

You can buy each program individually, or you can buy the complete package and save a few bucks. This is probably one of the best investments that any serious blackjack player can make.

Sure, there are other programs out there, but why not have the best?

    I certainly second parker here.

It is pretty neat to pick your counting strategy, pick the indices you want to use, define your betting strategy (what is a unit, how many units per different TC, etc) and then play. And have it nag you when you blow a BS play, or nag you when you blow a BS deviation due to count, or bet the wrong amount, etc. Not to mention tracking every session you play...

It really is one of those pieces of software that will cause black/blue marks on your butt, as you kick yourself over and over for not having found and purchased it sooner.

Only thing missing is some "heat" of some sort, so that you are forced to use a bit of "cover" here and there. You can do cover bets without getting nagged, if you press a button, but it would be neat to notice a pit critter peep out from behind the dealer if your play gets too mechanical or whatever...

Also it would be nice if it would pat your back after a session well-played.

I'm buying something today, with Casino Verite can I select RPC as my counting strategy, indices, and betting strategy/ and the program automatically correct me for errors in BS,count,BS deviations, and betting? I've been away from bj so long I'd like to use a current set of indices for multi deck as I'm going on memory alone (my ex got most all the books). I'm leaving on a Caribbean trip in 10 days and I'd rather deal with refining the other aspects such as sims, generating indices, and ROR after I return. thanks

RPC indexes are not included due to copyright restrictions. You would have to enter them yourself.

Does it handle Super Fun 21 and all the basic strategy playes? If it doesn't, I know of a software company that's in the process of developing one right now. Can you guess which it is?

I'm always amazed when I've needed support, Norm responded in less than five minutes each time.

    > Does is handle Spanish 21?

Yes of course. Not only rules but strategy warnings supported include:

*S3 - Stand, except hit with 3 or more cards
*S4 - Stand, except hit with 4 or more cards
*S5 - Stand, except hit with 5 or more cards
*S6 - Stand, except hit with 6 or more cards
*D3 - Double, except hit with 3 or more cards
*D4 - Double, except hit with 4 or more cards
*D5 - Double, except hit with 5 or more cards
*D6 - Double, except hit with 6 or more cards
*R3 - Surrender, except hit with 3 or more cards
*R3* - Stand with 3 or 4 cards and hit with 5 cards
*R4 - Surrender, except hit with 4 or more cards
*Rh - Surrender on first two cards, otherwise hit
*S4* - Hit with 4 or more cards or any 678 possible
*S5* - Hit with 5 or more cards or any 678 possible
*S5' - Hit with 5 or more cards or suited 678 possible
*S5 - Hit with 5 or more cards or spaded 678 possible
*S6 - Hit with 6 or more cards or spaded 678 possible

Strategies are included by the Wizard of Odds with his permission. CVData goes much further as it allows different index numbers according to the number of cards in your hand.
