    Laughlin Marauder: dumb ploppy moves

Last night i was at a 2D table with 2 other players. The TC rose to plus 9 with only 3/4 of a deck left. So I spread to two hands of 5 units. Got dealt a 6-4 on the first and a 5-5 on the second, the player to my right got a natural, and the player to my left got dealt 5-2. Dealer is showing 6. I double down both my hands, and the player on my left stands with his hard 7!!!! Dealer flips over 16 and draws a 5 for 21. I hit faces on both double downs and lost 20 units!!! The next hand everyone had 20 or a natural. I was in just shock that this idiot would stand on hard 7... and cost me 20 units. Anyone else have any amazing ploppy dumb moves?

The right thing to say is he didn't cost you anything, it all evens out in the end, your EV is not dependent on the play of others, etc, etc, etc.

Having said that ... man! What a bummer!

Those kinda bad beats are hard to shake off; but shake them off you must.

Keep on truckin' dude .. it'll come back around.

(Did you at least ask the guy exactly WHAT CARD HE WAS AFRAID OF DRAWING!?!?!)

    Sun Runner: You now ..

.. had that dealer busted you'd have been slapping that ploppy on the back for his 'brilliant move in standing on that hard seven' (while possibly saving you one of those ten cards for the next hand!)

    Hind sight's 20/20 .. and I'm nearly going blind.

Everyone at the table was asking what he was thinking. He just kept insisting he didn't want to take the dealers bust card.... I just shook my head. I did win 10 of the units back that I lost on the next hand with drawing 20 on both hands... but yes those 20 unit losses that should have been wins... hurt... especially when you had to go into the pocket to double down on the second hand.... Other than that one bonehead move he played approximate BS for the hour before and 15 minutes after... that was his only deviation that made my eyes bug out.... I guess he was afraid of getting the ever dreaded 15 card...

the dealers bust card, I have seen that done on a few occasions.

Also you must remember that as a counter and AP'rs many ploppys that play near to or perfect basic strategy will often look at your moves as you looked at this Ploppys dumb move. They may even say things to you and insult you for your actions. They will not understand that you have acquired great skill in the game and you must sit there and take there insults. I ran into just such a situation recently and I did tear into the a-hole who was starting to bad mouth me, he backed down or it could have gotten ugly, real ugly...... fast.

So live and let live, Ploppys are Ploppys and us AP'rs are....just so damn brilliant!

... he didn't cost you 20 units; he cost you 40 units! Had he drawn a card, in all likelihood, you would have had 40 units in front of you, at the conclusion of the hand. Instead, you had nothing.

Don you are right, it was a 40 unit loss he takes the 5 to get 12 and stands (hopefully) dealer flips 16 gets a King of Spades (trust me i had the lady show me and him the first card on the next hand). I just feel better saying 20... It doesn't sting as bad... 40 feels like a knife in the back, 20 feels like a sucker punch.

I understand your pain, but be careful here...you rubbed the stupid players face in his own ignorance. You drew attention to yourself and may have caused this player to go on the offensive because of a perceived insult on your part. You can never be sure who you are dealing with in these situations and you really had nothing to gain from showing him up. Re-think this entire situation and your actions following as you will be facing the same situation over and over again.

One time I hit a 12 vs 4 in a negative count. Naturally, I drew one of the few remaining 10's, which (of course) would have busted the dealer. The dealer went on to make a hand, and the tiny Asian lady at first base, who had to be at least 80 years old, nearly ripped my head off!

Could be, that two tens in a row would be followed
by a third. You got two tens, and could have drawn more if you split the fives-where was the count ?

Er, excuse me ... you have an index for splitting FIVES? I don't think so.

Splitting 5's.... I believe the index for that is +9 Beers or on a 6 deck game +6 tequilas
