When you're not alone at the table and you've reached the true count at which you place your maximum bet, uusally around +5, hi-lo.

Why is being alone or not impact this decision?

If conditions are good I usually spread to 2 hands at a tc of two and above. Is there an optimal reason why you recommend waiting untill a max bet is called for?

The optimal bet on each of two hands is about 75% of what you would have bet on one hand. So, you bet 50% more than on one hand. However, you increase the number of hands on the table from two to three, also an increase of 50%. The net result is the same number of dollars wagered, per card, than if you never spread to the second hand.

Once you're not alone, the 50% dollar increase remains, but you no longer use up 50% more cards, so the move is then worth it.

No, no optimal mathematical reason. I've always felt that spreading to two hands can raise a red flag, and the less often I do it, the better.

Others disagree, claiming that the more you do it, the less conspicuous it looks. So, it amounts to personal preference. Note that your way gets more money on the table, so if you can get away with it, it's the way to go.

    Ouchez: A different approach....

I use when going heads up in a game where the casino hides the hole card when you bust is to always play 2 hands to improve my chances of seeing all the cards. I do this until the count floors and then I drop to one.

I also go to two with a larger bet out of the hole because you are often rated by the pit on the first bets you make. More comps.

When there are a couple of other players I will play one until the count goes to neutral and then I jump to 2 spots until it goes neg. again. This always pisses of the other players and they then leave and you are heads up again. Ya, call me a Pr***.

I also like to go between one and two spots to try and change the cards the dealer is getting, he may be turning to many 20's so I will try to steer the cards elsewhere. I will also do this to get another players cards if they are getting to many 20's. Cruel, I know. I have found with many shuffles, and machines, that I, at times, can almost predict the sequence of the cards coming out and use the one or two spots "shuffle" to have them go where I want.

I think there are a host of reasons for doing one or two spots and they are predicated on the playing style and peculiar casino conditions.

Just my opinion, I may be wrong.

    Good cards,
    Ouchez.

Electric Kid: Only Had Two Backoffs in My Life

One was at my local casino where they had many opportunties to observe my play. The other was at a casino where I only played a couple of times, and what did me in was spreading from one hand to two hands. This was at the rec chip leave and it wasn't even a very big spread(just two hands of 6 units each). The pit boss saw that and was over to the table in a flash. I believe this was the start of my being ID as a counter.

Electric Kid: Sorry Parker for the spelling errors...

Guess I should stay over at the Heartland page. I gave up trying to fix them.

So you're saying that spelling errors are okay on the Heartland page, but not here?

Or are you saying that you don't make spelling errors on the Heartland page, only on this page?
