Viktor Nacht: Blackjack Attack 3 ? Longer, Thicker, Harder.

Blackjack Attack 3rd Edition has been submitted into the printer, and we have some final numbers and new information about its attributes.

The book is 544 pages in length, with 494 pages devoted to Chapter 1 through Appendix C. With its increased 7" x 9" dimensions, this represents a massive wad of new content.

Likewise, with its hard covers and high-density, opaque paper, BJA3 measures up at 2 1/8" inches thick. While this is normally a diminutive figure, as a book this is a truly virile tome.

Finally, for better protection, we've changed the hard cover material from a more traditional cloth to kidskin leatherette, for that old school feel. And for the truly adventurous, we've made that kidskin bright, bright blue.

    BJA3 is coming.

    Good Cards,

    V

but as a collector of rare and limited edition historical manuscripts, I appreciate the finest of bindings and paper.

    Just a fetish...I suppose.

    Norman Wattenberger: Generally I agree

Although a few of my BJ books are in tatters with pages inserted now in random order. What I really want is cookbooks that are washable. I tend to make a mess when I cook and would like to put the cookbook in the dishwasher along with the dishes.

True - the best binding in the world is just window dressing if the book doesn't deliver.

However, when you have a book with the sort of info in BJA3, I think it is nice to have it in a quality package.

For example, BJA1 had a binding that was, to put it kindly, inexpensive. It should have had a "Mission Impossible" sort of warning label: "This binding will self-destruct after a couple of readings." Mine certainly did. It was inconvenient to always have to put the rubber bands back around the book after I finished looking up something, and I was always afraid that I might lose a few pages.

BJA2 was much better, and with BJA3 it looks as if we will finally have a book that you can judge by it's cover. :-)

... the disgusting mustard-colored dissolvable cover that disintegrated upon touch! :-)

A lot of my bj books are very worn Million Dollar BJ looks like it has survived world war 4. I just remember all the hoopla about Cellinis book and wondering why anyone cared.

The Cellini book sold for a premium price. Sure, it had a lot of previously unknown information, but it looked like something someone whipped up in an afternoon at Kinko's.

A publisher charging three figures (or close to it) for a book can afford to put it in a quality binding. Not to do so reflects badly on the publisher, and makes people feel as if they are being ripped off.

There is a company that makes a clear plastic device that holds cookbooks up and keeps them from being splattered on. The book is supported in a reader friendly position in the back and has a large clear splatter shield in the front.

I don't remember who sells it but I would try Williams-Sonoma, Sharper Image or Brookstones.

    Bettie: Clean Cookbooks

I put the book in a clear plastic sleeve, the kind that I ship large books in for RGE. At least, I did when I still cooked, before the time of more comps than I know what to do with!

    Cyrus: "That disgusting mustard-colored cover"

I rather prefered "puke yellow", as color descriptions go.

(Whatever its color, though, I'm not parting with it.)
