Anonymous: Just how bad is this DD game?

S17, D9, NDAS, split pairs once, 55% pen

Am I correct in thinking that this game is not worthwhile for a counter even with uncrowded table conditions?

Ignoring bankroll and risk issues, what is the minimum spread necessary for one to truly be playing with an advantage on it?

Thanks in advance to anybody who replies.

    Anonymous: Additional info...

Mid-shoe entry is not permitted, but spreading to two hands is.

55% pen on a DD game with crappy rules blows.

Though you save about .2% with S17, you give back about .1% with D9, so the overall PE is something like -.4%.

There are plenty of games out there with a BS edge of -.3 or better and better penetration to boot.

I am sure the required spread is less then that however I wouldn't waste my time with anything less. Just my opinion!!!

Someone like Norm would be far better equipped to answer this question but I can give you some rough guidance.

The game has a house edge of around 0.54%. If you spread 1-8, using Hi-lo on true counts of +2-+5(&over), then this would still yield less than 0.5% edge overall in your favour.

Spreading 1-12 will not even give you an overall 1% advantage.

    Best regards

    Anonymous: An additional question.....

What is the minimum level of penetration that would make a DD game with these bad rules (S17, D9, NDAS, split pairs once, no mid-shoe entry) worthwhile? Thanks in advance again.

    Define "worthwhile." :-)

    Coug Fan: 75%

75% would make it worthwhile for me ASSUMING that I could get away with at least a 1-8 spread and that the place was near my house and gave great comps. With hot CW's, I might play at 65%.

The answer is different for each person. What is worthwhile to one will be a waste of time for another. Also, factors like bet tolerance (spread and amount), will play a large part depending on one's BR.

I would be satisfied with an EV of one unit per hour with a 1-6 spread. The game is dealt pitch style, and there are two other players at the table on average.

Well, you can achieve that EV under the condtions you mentioned at the top of this thread, but the SCORE is about a paltry $15.00 or so, which is pretty horrible.
