"I don't think outside the box; I think of what I can do with the box." - Henri Matisse
Which casinos in Las Vegas employ the facial recognition system?
Does The Mirage use it? What about others?
Does the computer automatically scan everyone entering the casino, or does a security personnel selectively target specific individuals of interest?
Imagine you’ve been backed off in the past so they have you in their systems. Now you return with a fake ID and a disguise. Play like a normal loser with modest spread (1:2 or 1:2.5) and short sessions. They will label/rate you as a typical high-roller, but more importantly non-threatening. Finally return with the same fake ID and this time without a disguise. Since they already labeled you as non-threatening, they probably won’t go into the facial recognition database. Does this all sound reasonable?
Do they employ the facial recognition system only for unrated players? Why would they use the FRS for someone with an ID. From their viewpoint, using the ID is much simpler than the FRS. For them to employ the FRS on someone who’s playing rated, they must suspect a fake ID. Are they that sharp?

Wave makes a point I would like some input on. Fake ID's are illegal by nature and can cost you some serious time in the State pen. (at least in Oklahoma) I believe this is true everywhere so I don't carry an ID on me when I go to play. What do you guys think, carry no ID (legal but tricky) or carry a fake ID (illegal but safer).
Also, how do you get a players card without an ID (in Oklahoma they use your DL to pll your personal info for the players card)
These days, carrying a fake ID anywhere is probably not a very good idea, as even gas stations have the technology to determine real from fake.
Currently, I am unaware of any casino that does not require a valid photo ID to sign up for player's clubs or otherwise play rated. Best advice I can give for players wishing to remain anonymous would be to keep your sessions short and infrequent.
As far as I know, facial recognition software is implemented universally, but I could be wrong. My logic being that such a tool would be far more effective if it could identify known "problem" players BEFORE they even sat down. I remember watching a program on tv about such casino software/tools quite a few years ago, so I can only imagine how easy and effective it is to use today.
All of the above is argument enough for the importance of camouflage/cover...
The issue regarding fake IDs comes up every once in a while, and it's the same old argument. Every DMV in every state has multiple ID machines that require constant maintenance/repair and replacement. When you consider the hundreds and thousands of machines in America, you can see that an industry exists. Also for ID readers/scanners as well. Those machines and parts aren't made in America, but manufactured overseas. The "fake" IDs are made overseas, but the quality is identical to those from DMV because the *exact same* machines are used, so naturally the IDs are properly encoded and scannable. Next time you're in the casino, peek at the bottom of the ID scanner for the origin of manufacture (without looking suspicious) and you'll see that many are manufactured in Singapore or Taiwan, which is where fake IDs are made. I hope this will put to rest the issue regarding the authenticity of the quality of the fake IDs.
If you have a fake ID or a fake persona in a casino, how would they know that it's fake? You're simply John Doe counting cards, unless someone positively identified you as Dave Smith, which is extremely unlikely. If a casino personnel requests an ID, simply leave; case closed. You're carrying only the players card, but not the ID. Police doesn't get involved unless there's physical violence, which is why it's best to calmly state that you're leaving the premises and then quietly walk out without causing a commotion. If police does get involved, you're using a found lost players card, which isn't prohibited by the law. Let me repeat, it's *** not illegal *** to use a players card found on the casino floors. From their perspective, you're foolishly racking up comp points on someone else's card. Make sure that when you present a fake ID for the players card, ask them not to photograph the ID.
In Atlantic City, not directly across the street from Bally's but a little down toward Taj Mahal, there's a place that makes truly atrocious fake IDs. It says, LOL, "IDENTIFICATION" at the top. I got the medical ID and used it to get a card from Showboat, and it worked! I wouldn't recommend it because the quality is laughably poor, but you get what you pay for ($35).
As a European, it is not clear to me what the situation is in the US. I have often read about fake IDs in books (and seen in the movie "21", where they even use fake US driving licenses). Is it necessary to order them from Asian sources? What do they look like, are they fake driving licenses or passports? Wouldn't that be illegal in the US? Or is a harmless golf club ID sufficient in order to get a player rating card? I assumed that it is much harder since 9/11 to get and use fake IDs or even get a new name officially, as Ian Andersen described in "Burning the Tables in Las Vegas" - a book which appeared before 2001. This all sounds really strange to me.

Wave, thanks for the input. Believe me I know they can be made. I could tell you stories about credit cards, DL's and other stuff that you had to be their to believe. Unfortunatly, some of that stuff (which I am retired from) led to me spending some time with the legal system so now my prints are in AFIS and a host of other federal and state databases.
I would hate for something to happen like what happened to James Grosjean in 2000 at Ceasers and my prints being in the system screw me. As you said, I could always say I found the Players Card, good move their, but that leads to another question.
You said I should ask then not to make a photo of the ID, hence that way they can't match up my face etc. Question then becomes let's say I get barred. They send me marketing/ promotional material which may void the trespass barring. Do they have to send ME the material at MY address or do they have to send it to the ALIAS that they burned/barred?
Just curious if you have a thought on this...thanks!
