Fred Renzey: Re: Losing the count

Rather than count in two different languages for positive and negative running counts or anything else, I just begin my balanced count off at "100" rather than "0". Plus 7 is "7" and minus 7 is "93". Doing this, your count would simply run; 3, 2, 1, 0, 99, 98, 97 or vise versa. You just need to get used to the idea that a running count of "82" is actually "-18".

I just use the M system. Positive is the integer and negative is 'm' with the integer. Although last night nothing would have worked.
Maybe "99 bottles of beer on the wall....take one down, pass it around.".... I lost count of the times I reached into my pocket for another buy-in.

Fred, I read you recent article on craps but am not able to access earlier columns. Can you email me your address so I can ask you a couple of things about recent events and people? Also, I want to discuss your experience with halves.

    Thanks,

    past crazy: SUPER!

I have the problem of remembering "am I in positive or neg territory" and adding high cards and subtracting low cards so I start the running count at 20 and calculate the running count then true count. Your system is way simpler & better thought out. I owe you a big THANKS! I'm definitely switching to the Renzey system.

Maybe what I really need is an accountant with hindsight?

This is a great post by everyone, I have had the same problem and Norm's software helps a lot, I still lose the count (as a compliment to Norm, If you have any questions he will e-mail back to you personally- thanks Norm)but it is getting increasingly easier- I have the CVBJ on my laptop and practice 1-2 hours a day, the tip on starting the count at 100 and adding or subtracting is excellent. Great comments by everyone, I can't wait to get back to Vegas!

I agree 100% When I was first learning to count I would always practice in the most distracting places if I was at home I would practice in front of the TV I would practice at the food court in the mall and in restaurants. Recently while training a friend we discussed having a porn movie runing in the background while he practiced on our table (We never went that far but if you can keep the count thru that you should be OK in a casino). One last point is to practice late at night after a long session just to make sure you are still acurate and fast even when tired. This is a discipline thing just like running thru your basic strategy cards every day for the five millionth time even though you haven't missed a single one in over five years.

you're a level 2 player? Don S. has said many times he's a Revere PC player, but I don't remember reading about you.

    Just curious...

It is all about focus and attitude.
I have found that by constant practice with CVBJ3.0 that I no longer require flashcards.
I use the cv test function for approx one hour per day with a gradual increase in speed and difficulty.Highly recommended!
