Can a 1:10 spread beat an 8 deck game?

Also, for example, if the minimum's $10 and the maximum's $100, and I place a maximum $100 bet, and I split, and then double down on each hand, I have $400 on the table, but does this still qualify as only a 1 to 10 spread?

Maybe. Depends on the rules, the cut, etc.

If you memorize all indexes and play perfectly, your ev is only -0.01% flat betting on S17 shoe game. You can beat the house if you spread 2 to 1 when the true count is greater than 1.

    I find this fairly unlikely!

Yes, 10-1 is enough to beat an 8 deck game if the rules are good, penetration is great, or you don't play a significant number of negative counts. No the "bet spread" is based on your initial bet, not on doubles or splits. Also 1x10 to 2x$50 is not the same in terms of effectiveness as 10-1 because of card eating issues.

Even without great rules or some super duper count or memorization, yes its possible to beat an 8 deck game with a 1-10 spread. Just leave it at that and don't ask any more questions.
Timidity is dangerous: Better to enter with boldness. Any mistakes you commit through audacity are easily corrected with more audacity.

    well, if i were you, i wouldn't use a 1:10 spread to beat 8decks game..... i'd use at least 1:12, but 1:16 it's better!!

yes, you're right.....but if he doesn't wong out at tc -1, 1:10 won't beat 8 decks, even if it has good rules!

Are you going to "play all" or backcount and enter at TC +1 or higher ?

Even at 6 decks with good rules, spreading 1-10 without wonging gives you an N0=50000 rounds playing Hi-Lo (SCORE = $20). You would be old and grey before making anything, especially with 8 decks.

An 8 deck game, stay and play, with S17,DAS,90% pen, flat bet = -.39% IBA

    with a 1-10 spread = .85% IBA, .34 units/hr.

If you spread $25-$250 you will earn $8.50/hour. That's a garbage game. You will really need to wong aggressively in such a game to make it worthwhile.
