The Palace Casino Resort is the only smoke free casino on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I assume a smoke free casino is not very common.

In Jersey, they are. The Westin in Vegas was smokefree, but I don't know if it still is.

When playing heavy it's almost impossible to stay in decent shape. That, and my dislike for smoke, is the hardest thing for me to overcome personally.

I worked in a field that had me working ridiculous hours. I mean 24 hour shifts, overnights and day shifts after working overnight the previous day. Aside from the fact that the field involved dealing with sick people constantly the main cause of illness was fatigue.

Suggestion: Bring Purell to the table with you and take care never to touch an open pore (eyes, nose, mouth, cuts, etc.) after touching any part of the casino environment. Frequent hand washing is a must and if your dealer is sneezing/couching on the chips or cards change tables.

After a while youveh had almost everything. if you homestead a place like vegas you'll get exposed to all the intermediate versions between distinct germ waves that they won't bother you. Casino employees get such when they've green gone long.

When you catch virus 1 when it comes around next week as v1.1 your body will be prepared for it. Now you'll be vaccinated to v1.2, who comes around and quietly prepares you for v1.3 etc. now when v2.0 comes around it'll be no biggy cause you just whacked v1.9 last week after you had a runny nose for about 8 minutes.

The Palace Station Casino may be the most smoke "full" casino in Las Vegas.

I find the riskiest scenario is exposure to kids or parents with young kids. I can't remember catching anything more than the common cold from visits to casinos (of course, a certain percentage of casino patrons must have young kids, but I'm guessing the majority do not, and especially do not have them along with them). I always take a jacket or sweater when playing late, because of the practice of casinos to pump in the cold air sometime in the wee hours of the morning (or maybe it just seems like that when the crowd thins out).

Don't forget to exercise. It is never too old to start or continue. It boosts immunity, concentration and sleep. The current recommendation is exercise everyday. Walking around and in between of casinos is not enough. You have to have your heart rate elevated to promote heart and lung health.

After a 6 hour session the other day, I felt sick to my stomach, sore throat, and even tightness in my chest. This had to be due to all the 2nd hand smoke. Any advice on this besides go to a non-smoking place?

The smoke bothers me but is just one of a handful or so of the health issues that abound at casinos. You know the secretly worst thing you can do at a casino? Eat at the buffet! Spend 15 minutes on the Internet reading about buffets and health issues.....you may puke your guts outs....I once read a medical journal article that said, albeit I think tongue and cheek, that basically it would be less unhealthy to drink the water from a toilet in the barroom of a casino than to eat at the buffet....gross.

And the people, man, I've been in the emergency room a few times in my life and the people in there are much, much more healthy looking than some of the patrons in the casino, I mean, if you go there on a weekday morning it looks like a hospice...so many walkers and wheelchairs and oxygen tanks and cartons of cigarettes with several packs piled up next to the slot machine.

I do not like casino management but I have less respect for these people that wander aimlessly through a casino with no chance at long term victory...screw them...I hope they lose every dime.

I confess that I eat at buffets. But it is usually breakfast and I try to go just as they are opening so the food hasn't been sitting around too long. My big meal of the day which is usually sometime in the afternoon is not at a buffet, but rather one of the other type restaurants. You could make a case that eating out at any public restaurant is inferior health-wise to preparing your own meals at home, but at this point I count eating 1 or 2 meals a day as part of my compensation and am too cheap to give it up. A further health issue that arrives from eating out too much and especially at buffets is that you tend to consume too much food. I personally gained about 15 pounds last summer and fall, while laying around recuperating from an illness and while I can't blame that weight gain on the casino food, I can say that eating out so often has probably played a roll in my inability to drop that weight as fast as I would like.

I'm seeing more people wearing the little face "masks" that cover their mouths and noses. Anyone know how effective they are?
For those that can't count without their lips moving, it would be a benefit for sure.
