I will be starting to use the KO system. I will be playing primarily 8 deck games because they have the lowest limits. The KO book rec's a 1-10 spread, but what should may bank roll be (will be playing one unit as 5 or $10). Thanks.
You can win with a 1-20 spread on an 8D game with good rules and 80%+ pen with KO.....A 1-10 spread will get you crushed. If playing $10 min you will need at least $10K to survive ($5K if going 1-20 on $5 table). Even this puts your ROR above what's comfortable for most but you are very unlikely to bust out if your game is good. You should have no problem spreading 1-20 on 8D game unless store is extremely sweaty.

My suggestion to you is make sure you have a big bankroll to attack 8-decks games. I will recommend using a 1-15 or 1-20 spread since there are only a few games where a 1-15 and 1-20 bet spread cannot beat.
Warning: You might be experiencing big fluctuations in 8-deck blackjack it is tolerable with deep penetration like 1 deck cut off. If you are planning to use a 1-10 bet spread may sure the penetration is good if you are planning to play all. Else use the KO count to wonging at +22 or -6.
Drop out if the count is negative
For eight games:
Leave is the RC is less or equal to
1 deck -32 if you set IRC = 0 drop out on -4
2 deck -27 if you set IRC = 0 drop out on +1
3 deck -22 if you set IRC = 0 drop out on +6
4 deck -17 if you set IRC = 0 drop out on +11
use Mr prefect or white rabbit playing style in blackjack attack.
Not crazy, 1x$5 to 2x$100 should not even raise an eyebrow on an eight deck game. You might have to come off the top with 2x$10 to maintain control of two spots considering low limit shoes are often full of players....that's 40-1 right there. Bet $5 in all counts below +2, bet 2x$20 at +2, 2x$50 at +3, 2x$80 at +4 and 2x$100 at +5. If 2x$100 gets 'checks play" called by the dealer maybe you can just top out at 2x$90. Bet amounts easily divisible by 2 to make payoffs and insurance bets easy. Avoid getting $1 and $2.50 chips as the dealer will want them as tokes. Go to the bathroom (reserve your spots) or sit out for a few hands if re-entry is allowed after a loss in any running count worse than -8 High-low (or if using KO any count that is -8 worse than your adjusted IRC based on where you are in the shoe).
That is the beauty of shoes, you can spread far and wide, use less cover, get more hands per hour, and often get better rules than pitch games with much less scrutiny. Low stakes (red-light green) players should not use any cover...you should also not play rated...save and protect your real identity from the casino at all times unless something special comes along.
The book is alright. Just people have different goal playing BJ.
Professionals consider 1% advantage is essential to well spend their time on the BJ table. That requires 20 to 1 spread on 8D game. For beginners like you, your goal is just to win, not to win 1%. Spreading 10 to 1 probably gives you 0.4% or 0.3% advantage. Once your bankroll grows bigger, you can spread 15 to 1 to gain 0.7% advantage.
Spreading 20 to 1 also will mark you a target because the casinos will know you are "professional" trying to make 1% of your bets return. So as a beginner, it is OK to spread just 10 to 1.
