Mr. Lucky: My first post disappeared!

Has anyone else had a problem posting? I was halfway done typing a long response to Buick Riviera's editorial thread when I bumped the up arrow and it all disappeared. Then, I retyped it, entered my password, proofread it, and finally posted it. I went back in to doublecheck it, and it simply wasn't there. I hit the refresh button - still no luck. I went all the way out and went back in. Still, my post is missing. Does anyone know what would cause this?

I think you have figured it out by now, but since we have a lot of new people stopping by, I will go over it for the benefit of everyone.

If you look at the top of any index page, you will see a link that says, "This Forum is Semi-Moderated." I encourage everyone to click on this link and read it. This is how we maintain the pleasant, polite, troll-free atmosphere here that makes us different from, um, other sites.

Anyone can post on the open forums, simply by filling in the appropriate areas in the "Post Response" box, and clicking on "Post Message" at the bottom of the box (although it is a good idea to preview your posts).

However, messages do not immediately appear on the board. Rather, they go to an administrative "holding tank" where someone (usually me) takes a look at them. Assuming they do not violate our guidelines, they then appear on the boards.

Everyone is encouraged to register his/her handle. By doing this, no one can post using that handle except you. In addition, you will have a password stored, in the event that you wish to delete one of your posts.

More important, once you have registered your handle, made a few posts, and we can see that you are not a troll or otherwise disruptive, you may be given "bypass moderation" status. This means that your posts will appear immediately the moment you hit "Post Message."

    Any questions?

We really need to get that FAQ done. :-)

BTW, Mr Lucky, you now have "bypass moderation" status.

    Mr. Lucky: Doubly cool!

I can just see some troll wanting to start trouble and waiting for responses to his post only to look at the board and see it won't even show up!

Bypass status on my first day here. I must be getting a reputation. Unlike Casinoland, that's a good thing!

And I did register my handle before I did anything else. I was just a little pressed for time and didn't put any commentary about myself yet.

Also, how come when you get a response to a post you don't receive an e-mail notification? Finally, is there any way to keep the text of the post you're responding to from showing up in the text box you type a response in. I can see how that would be convenient when you're doing a point-by-point response to someone's post, but I find it tedious to delete out by backspacing over it. I think I've got a lot to learn from the Computing for Clueless Counters board!

Do it this way, Mr. Lucky - simply highlight all the text in the message window by holding down the left click on your mouse and move it downward to the end of the text, then hit the "delete" key.

After that, the window will be clear and you can type your post.

    Mr. Lucky: Thanks!

Duh! I think someone left clicked on my brain yesterday just like that!
