    etiquette: dealer behaviour international?

I saw that dealers in las vegas are very rude, maybe they want to make themselves friends of the pitbosses by this behaviour? example: they expect more tips than anywhere, but even so they make dumb comments if one (ploppy or not) wins.
in West Europe: dealers expect a lot of tips, even if you loose they expect tips always when you have a blackjack. example: you have 2 chips of 100 Euros on the table, get a bj. the dealer gives you 2 chips of 100, one of 50, 3 of 10 Euros and 4 of 5 Euros, it is clear what (s)he wants. at least they do not bother much more with stupid comments, maybe they say: nice, you are very lucky. the wish is clear, but the comments are not so rude as from Las Vegas dealers/pitbosses.
Eastern Europe, Asian countries where i have been: they say twice thanks for any tip. they never ask indirectly for a tip. opposite: i have 3 chips with denomination 10, get bj, and dealer gives me a 50 chip and says: a 5 chip back please, more easy.
In sum I say: I do not want to exaggerate tips, but i can give something. about 1% of my winnings may be ok. my work is hard enough, too. and of course no tip if i have lost 5000 and recover it. and i will not give anything if dealer or other staff behaves rude. it is certainly rude if they tell indirectly: give more!

    Orson: My experience

My experience is, that dealer's in Eastern Europe are VERY obnoxious with tip hustling, but it varies by country. Russia, CIS countries, former Yugoslavia and Bolgaria are among the worst. Baltic countries, Poland, Czech Republic are better. I have a limited experience in Western Europe, but, yes, they do expect lots of tips.

In Vegas it is relatively easy to get away with not tipping at all, if you play short sessions (and I have to play short sessions usually, if I do not want to be escorted to the door). In some Caribbean destinations they do not hustle for tips at all, but they are still happy if you tip a little. They even appreciate few singles from a black chip bettor; at most other locations they will treat tipping that small as an insult.

I still cannot understand, why casino business is diferent from anything else. If I want to tip a taxi driver, I tip at the end of journey. If I tip a waiter, I tip at the end of my meal. Why the hell should I tip a casino dealer nearly after every nice winning hand? I haven't won anything before I get to the cashdesk, and then out of the casino, even if at the moment I am 10k ahead! And why casino dealers think that 100$ bettor should tip much more than 5$ bettor? Does handling black chips make their job much more difficult?

    Christopher: Tippings

Here's my simple rule of thumb on tippings:

Do sparingly tip the friendly dealers after a winning session, and stiff the nasty hustling ones. Somehow the friendly dealers usually make paying-mistakes in my favor, i.e., paying me at a tired hand or pushing me on a lost hand. On the other hand, the nasty ones have usually attempted to rip me off by obvious "mistakes" in the house's favor.

Dealers do gossip about stiffing players, i.e., me at the nasty ones. Here's what I don't understand. Why do some dealers are nice to me while some are not in the same casino? When I stiffed some nasty dealers, I'm sure that they would badmouth me to all other dealers. So why NOT all of them gang up & be hostile toward me 100%? Go figure!

I do about the same, i do not tip them for results that are just an effect of randomness in my favour. a tip is always ok when dealer makes errors in my favour. it is ok, too, if dealer behaves friendly and politely. but i will not give if the tips are shared with the unfriendly pitboss or with the house itself. and i consider it as unpolite if dealer gives me a broad hint, like paying me in smaller chips than necessary. i can tip the dealers that give me a good pen and give nothing to those who cut me half shoes.
