Blackjack Knight: Anyone been to Colombia, specifically Cali?
Tell us about your experiences? BJ and other.
-
colombian: yes, still there...
BJ: playable games in Cali, San Andres, Medellin, Barranquilla, Bogota (cheat at one place).
Girls: very nice.
security: better than Venezuela, worse than rest of latin america, dangerous especially for gringos and for people that show a lot of money at the table. if you dont leave your hotel you are ok. check currency laws before you go.
interested in more infos? than e-mail me.

Bogota: Cheats at mpre tahn one place.
Cali: At least one place... affiliated with one of Bogoda's cheating joint... names: Gran Casino.
Barranquilla: At least one cheating place, not Grand...

I and 2 CCs brought US$70,000 cash into the country. US$40,000 were confisticated after we declared... we got the money back after one week paying US$8,000 to Custom officer(s) of Barranquilla.

Be extra careful of Medeillin's International Hotel. The hotel is located between twn casinos thus convenient. My money was stolen from the safe of the hotel then a robbery was staged when we left. I was robbed US$24,000.

colombian: indeed, take care with currency controls...
this is a general problem in south america. Even if you declare correctly your money may be confiscated. it is your problem how to get it back. they usually give you back if you pay them an amount of money that is not too small, bjtr is quite correct. you may read in internet or be told by the embassy that you may carry as much money as you like if you just declare correctly, but practically a lot of customs officers want to "earn" some money when they control you.
the best solution is if you have some friend there that helps you.

BJ avernger: OK, what are the procedures as far as declaring and recomendations? *NM*

BJTr: Re: OK, what are the procedures as far as declaring and recomendations?
The Custom officers told me one person can only bring in or out US$10,000 cash. If one brings more than US$10,000 in, the excess will be confisticated for investigation of legality... penalty is 20%, may take mionths to clear... the Custom may declare your money to be legal and return in full if and only if you bribe enough...
My recommendation? Hide!
-
colombian: I recommend you wire transfer
to bring the money in and out. you need at least 1 confident person that has a bank account in your preferred country. it may be a lawyer, but of course you will have to pay him. if you have a confident friend it is fine. try to open an own bank account, but quite difficult for foreigners. you will need a lawyer that helps you.
You see: good for small bankrolls if you have no money to declare.
possible for very big bankrolls if you can afford additional costs. And if you want to stay a lot of time there. You will have to work a lot to recover your additional costs.
i do not recommend you if you have a medium bankroll of 50k-200k and want to stay just for 2 weeks.

indeed: even if the embassy tells you one thing the customs officer may tell the contrary! the last part is 100% correct!

do you want to go to prision? prefer my recommendations above.

I suspected be cheated in Bogota as well. However, the games in San Andres and Medellin were not even close to playable.
