Yes, a side count can improve the SCORE. In the case of Hi-Lo, you can enhance your bets by using a side count of sevens. This is the most practical approach.
Some people use a side count of Aces to improve the playing efficiency and consequently, the SCORE as well.

I've used a side count of aces, but only with DD. For a shoe game, it's hardly worth the effort. Besides affecting some index plays, it improves your INS bet.

The most important index of all - ASC for insurance alone is worth the effort
