I assume this question has been asked a million times but im not too sure how to search on this forum so sorry in advance!
What software do people use to calculate their edge under certain conditions, ROR, optimal bet spread etc?
I did a lot of research on software and for what it's worth and here are my recomendations.. For a phone APP I use the BLACKJACK training app from BJ Apprenticeship for practice counting and basic HI-LO strategy. For my PC I invested in Casino Verite BJ and CV Data and it gives me ALL of the tools and practice and running bet spread sims and like. I also picked up Dunbar's Rick Anaylzer which I like using as well since it gives me nearly identical results as CV Data and I have it loaded on my tablet since it's just a really spreadsheet. I have played BJ for over 20 years but only in the past year have I decided to really invest time/effort/brain power into the math/practice to get to the level need to be at the level play to make it as full time AP when I retire. I have Wong's, Ian Anderson's, Snyders and Don's book on BJ as well. I use both RED 7 and HI-LO when counting. Hi-LO for double deck and RED 7 for shoe games. If your funds are limited.. Just get Casino Verite BJ and start with that. It's well worth the money and you can set-up betting and chose from a variety of counting technics and lots of practice tools..
Everything I have read so far, seems to indicate that RED 7 even using full index plays ( Snyder's book ) Don's book on page 176 (3rd) seems to indicate a better SCORE rating using HI-LO for 1 & 2 decks but for the 6 and 8 deck shoes played here in the mid-west, DAS play all, using a 1-12 bet spread ( red chipping ) whatever small difference between the two in my circumstance makes up for the ease of play using RED 7. So far, using the index plays for the shoe games are a easy to remember while playing ( not as many ) and they pivot on a -4 or 0 or +4 counts and it sort of intunitive as well, Anytime I get to -4 or better I need to be sharp on my index plays and there are only a 13 including the surrender (if offered ) and they are all STAND or the 5 double down indexs for hard hands, no soft. Only 2 and 4 deck are played here in the mid-west for the most part unless you go into the high limit rooms and I have yet to see a single deck game offered to regular players without a special ask to your concerige if you are a high roller. I am sure I am giving up some some EV using RED 7 on shoe games but the ease of counting and index decisions makes up for it I think because I can play, chew bubble gum and count all at the same time. I know Synder wrote some books on beating the X-deck games and I am really interested in reading them.. I just got Norm's book just this last week ( vol 1 ) and plan on reading it after I finish a book on the Manhattan Project.
