    Background Checks for New Dealers?

Hi i was wondering if anyone might give me some advice...I started Blackjack dealer school tonight and its a 6 week course that consists of 4 hours a night at 5 nights a week for 6 weeks..

Keep in mind that this is all new to me and i have no idea what the process is..And also the fact, that im NOT getting paid for the 6 week course..

Now heres what im concerned about..Tonight as i was in training i heard one of the trainers/managers say that after orientation you have to submit your fingerprints and fill out this form that does a thorough background check on ya and is sent to the FBI..What? The FBI, seriously? This really concerns me, and although im no convict i did have to spend a couple of months in the county jail about 15 years ago for an altercation i got into..And although i havent been in trouble in over 10 years ago and im 51 now i have also 3 past duis from 15-20 years ago...

I really dont know what to do and i really cant afford to waste 6 weeks of my life and not get hired...Im a really good honest and clean guy besides some of the mistakes i made in the past..

Who hires me? The casino, the state or the gaming control board?..Illinois is the state in questio here..Can anyone give me any advice here? Not sure i should even go back to class tomorrow if im doing all this and denied my gaming license..

What is a "Gaming License" btw? I need a gaming license too?

I imagine asking them would be the quickest way to find out if your record is a DQ.

Agree with this. I have no idea what the gaming regulations in Illinois are, but it sounds like you need something like the "sheriff's card" workers need in Las Vegas to work in establishments that have gaming or serve alcohol. Two months in county sounds like a felony issue, and a felony may well be an automatic DQ no matter what it was for. That being said, I have a hard time believing everyone in the gaming establishments in Nevada, Illinois, or any other state are squeaky clean to a man, so my guess is as long as you have no felonies or theft-related issues on your record you'll have a good shot, but until you contact the agency that will ultimately issue your license you can't know for sure.

Check the published government gaming regulations for your state, likely available on line. There will be a section on licensing dealers, likely advising requirements, qualifications etc.
