In the long run, as Don might say, "ça ne fait rien."

Don, initially you stated to wager no more than half of your on hand bankroll. Now are you stating to bet all of it if that is what the count warrants? Going back to my initial example, you have $600 left to wager. The count calls for a $300 wager and there is 1 deck left in the shoe before the cut card comes out. So you would wager $300 as that is what the count demands. Fine.

But what if the count called for a $600 wager? Would you still bet the full amount? Even if it were the last round? What if you have to split or double? Although unlikely, it could still happen. How much EV is lost by not splitting or doubling in high counts? ????

Non math people are asking non sense questions. I trust 21forme in this matter.

No --- You were on a winning streak. You would have won 26 very small bets. I don't believe your story anyway.

I'm expressing an opinion. There is an huge difference between one deck left and one hand left. I can't understand why everyone doesn't realize that. If you have one hand left, my OPINION is to bet what you have. When you bet half of it, worrying about the split that's never going to take place, and you get a blackjack, you're going to feel like an idiot. When you bet half and are so glad you kept the money for a double, what's the point? If you have ALL the money riding on that hand, it's more e.v. than the double! You never can have greater e.v. on a double with half a bet than you would just hitting the hand with a full bet. The e.v. for the latter is always greater because you can hit again, if need be.

Bottom line: I don't know the right mathematical answer for several hands left. But, for one hand, and a bet that calls for all your chips, bet all your chips!

Some do realize - and 4 decks left, then 3 decks left, then 2 decks left. Further, the closer to cut card, QTC can be become extremely powerful. As you say, I can’t understand why everyone doesn’t realize that.

I can just see it now….at +5, my last hand is AAv7, but I can’t split because I just bet my last dollar. I hit. 10. I hit again. Another 10. I bust. Dejected, I watch as the dealer busts.

“You know, The Book says to always split Aces and Eights”, the dealer says, trying to be helpful…

I was part of that situation once.

A young kid sitting next to me (ploppy), bet his last $400. He got AA v whatever. He said, "I guess I'll have to just hit." I offered to finance the split with the understanding that we split the overall result in half, being clear, one wasn't mine and one wasn't his. He agreed and we played the hand as it should have been played.

These situations are common if you play long enough. I had the same situation several times. Won some but lost some.

Trust me. I am a skilled counter capable of counting down a whole deck in 16 seconds, however I lost a lot of money in 8-deck shoe games. Based on my own experience, I just don’t think they are countable at all.

However, most recently I have been counting 8-deck Spanish 21 stand-17 games. I hope to get help from you on this game. I want my money back.

What if you are a player that splits 10s? In a high count receiving a pair of 10s is even more probable.

Suppose you are dealt a 9 vs 5? What is the EV of doubling on that? What is the EV of hitting that? This will help me to quantify what you are trying to explain.

Search for Wizard of odds blackjack hand calculator. You’ll find all these numbers.

    It's just one hand.

If you are going to obsess over stuff like this, plan better and have an adequate bankroll available.
