If table limits aren't an issue, heads up play 1 spot, with other players play 2 spots but drop to 1 spot when the house has an edge or if there are other considerations (like the casino makes you bet 2x table min to play two spots or if a crowd of players is trying to get a spot to play then you might have to play 2 spots in minus counts.). I like to play 2 spots whenever I have an edge, even if heads up, I believe 1 player can blast through a shoe faster playing two boxes than just one as the dealer tends to pause more between rounds. Depends on the dealer but if I get a hot shoe I want to hit it and leave before I am backed off so the faster the better.
