    R.I.P. Lance Humble

"Lance Humble" is no longer with us. He was Igor Kusyszyn, Ph.d
A professor at York University in Downsview (now Toronto), Canada.
His pen name was ironic. He'd was not so much humble as he was popular.

I met the Ukrainian emigre after I had earned my M.S. in Clinical Psychology.

I can still picture his happily cluttered faculty office. We chatted at length
re: gambling and I explained that I had just delivered a lecture and workshop,
(at an A.P.A. Convention), on advanced uses of the M.M.P.I. (The 555 item
"Minnesota Multiphase Personality Inventory." I wanted to do extensive profiling
of "Pathological Gamblers" who were "Cross-Addicted." He wanted to be the
Chairperson of my Doctoral Dissertation Committee ~ and I was excited as he
(literally) guaranteed my smooth sailing through my Doctorate.

At the time I had a teenage wife (#1 of 3) and she freaked out at the notion of
moving to Canada for a few years. Long story made short: I had to decline his offer.
Had I stayed, I’d have been in on the ground floor of Hi-Opt II, along with Julian Braun,
when Nevada (and foreign casinos) were all virtual candy stores.

That's pretty interesting. I guess the real lesson here is don't have either wives, or teenage wives? =P ...ahh, we all gotta learn the hard way with some things in life =).

One of the first books I read too. It's on the bookshelf by the front door. I glanced at it just last night. It's nice to hear his professional life was apparently so joyful. His powerful HO2 lives on!

He really does not deserve the credit for Hi-Opt I or Hi-Opt II.

He wrote narratives that were NOT good. The numbers work

was all done by Julian Braun, a 1970's computer programmer.

He gives credit. I think it's difficult to criticize books written in that period knowing what we know now. But, no question that Braun was a pioneer.
