    NYC casino?

I've long felt that a real casino in New York City is a very unlikely possibility as the NYC citizens and lawmakers don't like the idea and upstate lawmakers think it will hurt them. (I doubt that.) But, a huge deficit is a large inducement. Further, the Manhattan commercial real estate market is in poor shape. Two articles below, from the NYPost (recent but not reliable) and the NYTimes (two months ago and behind a paywall). The Post talks about three possible locations that would be ridiculous. No moneyed tourist is going to visit them and they would require a complicated trek from the suburbs. The Times article suggests some central Manhattan sites that are close to hotels, other heavy tourist spots, and massive transportation options. The commercial real estate market is such that they are talking about converting one million sq. ft. of office space to condos. So, space could be found.

But, it would be a hell of a fight.

I use Chrome for day-to-day stuff. For paywalls, I use FireFox which I have set to have zero history. Doesn't work for me on all paywalls. For some incognito mode works.

The only place fit for a casino in NYC is Willets Point in Queens, where it is really international and thus will attract gamblers from around the world.

I don't think Asian whales are going to rush to an area populated by junkyards and auto shops. Unlike London, with two dozen casinos, there would only be one real casino. It would necessarily be expensive and should be located near world famous restaurants and shopping venues. All of NYC is international. Over 800 languages are spoken in the NYC metro area.

Norm, isn't there a spot near UN Plaza that would be perfect for a casino?

Don't want to compete with Wynn for a license.

Another 1.6 million commuters enter and exit Manhattan each day -- well, prior to the pandemic. About 330,000 people pass through Times Square daily. Over 460,000 pedestrians walk through Times Square on its busiest days. That's some nice foot traffic.

The character of Manhattan is an issue. But, there wouldn't be a glitzy strip. Just one hotel amidst a vast number of other buildings. Most Manhattanites would never see it.

If there is only one casino, what do you think the minimum BJ bet would be? Any chance anyone could get a heads up game?

Come to think of it. This is Times Square yesterday. It's a pop-up show with Broadway performers. There have been a few dozen around the city. They are not announced to the public to avoid crowds spreading Covid. A casino could fit in.
