Yes, both of them! People taking the utmost of precautions are getting it in some instances. It's highly contagious. If you're going down to the local saloon tonight to enter the sneezing contest on a regular basis, it's only a matter of time. Due to the potential for long term health issues (provided you survive the initial illness), there's not much to laugh about. Due to the high probability of catching it if you don't mask and distance, there won't be many people laughing at me.

Calculating Covid casualties are easy, calculating casualties as a result of the so called response to Covid are much harder. The effects of those with no money, from being laid off and worse, for those who had to quit their jobs or be fired because they needed to deal with children at home because schools were closed. The unemployed, those becoming homeless, the evictions, the list is huge.

More of the poor and elderly dying because of Covid, just as many poor and old dying because of the paranoia being generated.

For months, the media screamed about staying home, pointed to people on beaches and clubs and bars as sources of spread and then when George Floyd happened, thousands protesting but suddenly it was no longer bad to be on the streets in protest, shaming people for not going and joining the protests.

However, even patients without Covid are impacted by it. They often can't get the care they need because of over-flowing Emergency Rooms and full hospitals, as well as overworked physicians, nurses, x-ray techs and other hospital workers. What about the uncounted increased number of errors by all those who are too tired to give their best. What about those who can't get "elective" surgeries. What about people who are sick enough to go to ERs or be admitted to hospitals, but don't go because of fear of catching Covid. Lets go back to Covid patients: How many of them die or have worse outcomes because of the above compromised care?

Look, I have isolated myself, have not taken airline trips and visited casinos and always wear a mask. My problem is with blaming others if I get Covid, requiring others to make sacrifices to protect me and those in my age group. We don’t need to give the government even greater powers. The federal government and the media should restrict themselves to educating people.

Those of us concerned can wear masks, stay where we are comfortable. It’s hypocritical to bitch about people partying on the beach and then shut up when they gather together for causes we like.
