    I can't add much except that I 'feel' part of the misunderstanding is possibly due to the S & H that accompanies the 17. The H in H17 lingo never has to do with it being a 'Hard' 17. The S means 'Stands' on (soft) 17 and the H means 'Hits' on soft 17. I remember when first learning the jargon, some difficulties, and I can imagine being unsure whether S17 meant soft17 and H17 meaning Hard17 or whether they were Stand on soft17, hit on soft17. OP it would be more accurate to label them H(it)S17, S(tand)S17, but that's not how the abbreviations evolved. Clear as mud?

    Also See "Basic Strategy" and Note the Differences in Strategy Changes.. Primarily when Dealer shows an Ace. From the "Counters Point of View" we use two different indexes when the dealer has an Ace and for 12v6.
