These days, before paying for services, be it fixing an appliance or learning anything, I go to the internet, do a few searches. When Zi wanted to get to count cards, I started searching, found BJ21 which, besides covering counting, had much in its archives. I found this site and lots of recommendations for great books.

Some of us search for basic public transportation, others purchase a bike or car and some prefer a chauffeured limousine. You get to your destination whichever means you choose.

I haven't read his book yet - partially because I'm still absorbing the books I already own, and because I'm cheap as a card counter and won't buy it until the price drops or I can get it used/free.

Regarding the "those who can't do, teach" point, it's my understanding that Colin tried out other business ventures because card counting can only scale up to table limits. I think he tried real estate with little success, then a financial program in the vein of Dave Ramsey's, and then BJA. And I believe he quotes his career EV to $450/hr, which turns that $600,000 into just 1,333 hours of play. If I could manage a team and stay home with my family making the same money, I would.

Now, I am put off by how most of the pros he highlights started with micro bankrolls and grew to 6 figures. In the members-only podcasts, you find out that many of them were way over-betting early on and got lucky. The math obviously shows that for each one of those guys, there's a psychiatrist's waiting room full of ones who didn't get so lucky, and aren't on a podcast talking about it. However, even the free youtube videos from BJA go into plenty of detail on RoR, and hammer home the difference between calculated EV and gambling.

Colin's a good salesman, so he knows that you have to excite people with possibilities. But I think he's also a good teacher. Anyone who learned form BJA like me and payed any attention knows exactly what to expect.

Let Colin post here to speak for himself. If he can count down a deck of cards in 20 seconds, he probably is qualified to teach.

Sounds like you have been networking with Midwest Player. Skelly it is just a private joke with MWP.

I don't know of anyone called Midwest Player. What are you referring to when you say "it is just a private joke..."?

Skelly, Midwest Player is a veteran member of the site who has posted here for many years. Regarding the joke which was directed at him is that sometimes he is overly conservative financially regarding his expenditures related to blackjack knowledge. You made me think of him when you wrote in post #132:

That above quote describes MWP perfectly. He has waited now at least ten years to purchase Don S third book which I consider to be penny wise and pound foolish. Now since you brought it up again I have no idea if you are an active player or not, but, if you are I would re-think about your above quote. Nothing personal to you. MWP and I have argued about politics at times.

You clarified yourself very well while I was confused by what you said earlier. Clearly you have an impression about everybody’s play levels and skills. Some people may be skilled but would never risk big gambling, while others may have won millions from blackjack. My impression is that Freightman is a high roller here. Is this impression correct? Politically I feel you are pro conservative, is this correct?

For this site and on most all sites yes Freightman is considered a high roller, although that term is very subjective. However, I think that the freighter gaming career is winding down considerably now, as he is more consumed with seeing family which is smart. Speaking of freighter, I have been a little worried about him and if there are health concerns affecting him. He has not been around the site for a while now. I hope you are okay Freightman.

Freightman is fine. He told me he will post soon as to why he has been absent.

Yeah, had a couple of email inquiries on that point, including one a few minutes ago.

I’m fine. Just tired of the general assortment of douchebags, dumb fucks, ignorant assholes coupled with inconsistent selective enforcement. Should be generally well known as to whom my comments are directed to.

Bosox - you’re right - the most difficult issue of this pandemic is the inconsistency of seeing my grandchildren and sons. We do see them all of course, but long breakfasts, lunches family get together are not happening, and won’t until clearance is received. Mind you, I play chess with my 8 and 5 year old grandsons at chess.com, tell my 4 year old granddaughter how beautiful she is, let all of them know that Bubbe and Zaidy love them, face time with everyone, attend meetings, weddings and funerals over Zoom.
