most of the areas of Maryland that are close to DC are also very high - many areas are higher than DC itself - you can get some decent deals between Laurel and Baltimore or north of Frederick which is pretty far out there; and lots of others are doing that so you're talking about heavy, heavy traffic if you're headed into MGM - brutal - not unusual for one hour trips to become 2.5 hour trips
traffic, actually, is much, much lighter now because of Covid - but that will end if and when things get back to normal
the OP said DC - but there are no casinos in DC - MGM is very close - the next closest - Maryland Live - is about an hour from DC depending on traffic and depending what part of DC you started from
