    SCORE / CVCX confusion

I just re-read Chapter 9 of BJA3 for the umpteenth time and am still confused about one point: SCORE is the win rate, in dollars, per 100 rounds, given all the conditions of the game in question.

BUT... in CVCX, SCORE is almost always higher than my win rate per 100 rounds. No matter how I configure things, SCORE and win rate never match. Why is that? Is SCORE assuming that my BR continues to grow, such that optimal Kelly betting leads to bigger bets over time? Or is SCORE assuming perfect-to-the-cent betting and my lower win rate reflects rounding bets to the nearest chip size? What am I missing?

I don't think you're using the SCORE in the right way if you're trying to compare your win rate to it. SCORE is dependent on standardized input parameters, and more than just the conditions of the game: it also is based on the player behavior, most specifically the optimal betting ramp and perfect play (with the Illustrious 18/Fab 4 indexes). The conditions used to calculate the SCORE are rarely actually found perfectly in a casino, especially if you are doing any camouflage play (like not splitting 10s even at high counts); also consider other players joining/staying/leaving your table... Your EV depends on those things, but the SCORE does not (because SCORE assumes different values).

What you should be doing is calculating your EV based on the various parameters that are specific to your game, such as ways that your play might differ from the Illustrious 18 (e.g. never splitting 10s), or how your bet ramp differs from the optimal Kelly betting ramp used in SCORE calculation. Calculate your EV from that (or run simulations), and then you can compare your win rate to that EV (remember that variance will still likely render your results far from a perfect match; just make sure it's within one or two standard deviations).

So what is SCORE good for? It uses standard player input parameters (i.e. optimal bet ramp) so that you can compare the games to each other. Which game should you play when deciding between two tables or casinos with different rules? Check the SCORE. Don't use it as a replacement (or stand-in) for figuring out your own Expected Value for your play.

    Do the following:
Go to CVCX and take canned sim Hi-Lo Ill-18
    Input a $10 000 Bankroll
    Input 1 as Kelly fraction
Input the Min Chip Size at $1 and use "minimum chip size"

The numbers should match except for the cents due to rounding.
