I would like to know whether online casinos detect card counters or not.
The gain from card counting is less because the penetration is mostly slightly above 50% in most shoes. The highest bet spread I have ever used is only 4 (i.e. no chance to go to higher bet spread).
Another reason is the business model. The dealers are from third party software provider (i.e. Evolution gaming, Playtech, NetEnt) and not the casinos themselves. From what I know so far, the software providers earn fixed cost for their services and variable costs depending on the amount of total bets, not the outcomes. Therefore, the service providers do not share any losses due to card counting (the casinos hosting their services do) which means the service providers may not want to put huge efforts in investigating playing behaviours of blackjack players. It is rare for the casinos themselves to observe individual plays as there are plenty of players and they do not watch the tables during the plays of players. I even saw a few dealers teaching basic strategy at the table and congratulate players for nice hit on 15-16. Unlike brick-and-mortar casinos, the dealers belong to the casinos themselves and the pit bosses observe how people play almost all the time.
