That's surely a part of it. Also, Texas is an odd duck. It is in some ways the heart of gambling and poker -- indeed that's what Texas hold'em is named after. Yet, they don't like casinos.

They ARE dealing face up for all card games at my local stores included 2/3 DD bj. Each table game can seat 3 players max and nobody touch the cards but dealers, all have face mask. They also have "hybrid" game with live dealer and video in that one dealer deals out 3 hands that shows on big screen and up to 12 stations, players, say you seat at one station you can play 1 or 2 or 3 hands simultaneously, $3 each. Each player call his/her hand(s) independently. You insert money in a slot and get credit so you can bet. No chips no cards to handle. It's CSM.
Face up games are good for the AP. They move faster (RPH) and reveal more info. Touching the cards is an unnecessary pain in the.......especially with all the newbies that have to be instructed how to give hit signals, etc.
I actually think their double deck game is more of a counter trap because it allows a wider spread. Also it's pretty obvious as it seems higher and more well lit for surveillance than the other tables. I don't think the single deck is as bad truthfully because they don't allow as high a top bet. And there are usually too many "beginner/ploppies" at these tables (2 at most?). But the double deck temptation awaits...............I thought all of you said it was a badge of honor to be backed off from El Cortez? LOL

I think this is all heading towards completely chipless blackjack. Everybody would use a card for transactions. It would be the end of AP's also. Sad to say but true. Would depend on if the casinos want to invest the kind of money that it would take to do that initially.
I saw chipless cardless blackjack few years back and they still being used in at least one of my local store, it was called MindPlay. I see couple variations of chipless cardless blackjack, one of them is in post #15. I think casinos would save the money to use the machines over the cost of paying dealers. As we see the degenerate gamblers don't care if the 6/5 bj or csm.
These will start being more prevalent:
