    New info on Las Vegas..

    Received email from Vegas

    COVID-19 Has Shutdown Las Vegas

As we all know, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed everything. Even Las Vegas, which has never closed for more than a day since 1963 for JFK's funeral, has closed almost everything.

Nobody really knows when things will be open for business. All gaming hotels, casinos, restaurants, bars, and entertainment are closed. Group meetings of 10 or more people are also banned across the state. There are still some hotels that allow bookings, like Marriott, but you won't have much to do when you arrive. Even the famous the Bellagio Fountain show is cancelled.

You can read more about the pandemic's impact on Las Vegas. We will keep this information page updated with the latest information.

Many of the major Vegas hotels are hoping to open by May 1st, 2020. In fact, you can book a room now and get a significant discount. Rates for major hotels, like NY NY, Rio, Luxor, and MGM Grand are in the $20-$40 per night range. Further, a recent policy change by most of the major hotels allows you to cancel for free up until the actual day (by 3PM) of your stay. See our Las Vegas Hotel Promotions for details.

While you may not be able to stay in Vegas now, you can still talk about it in our New Vegas Talk Forum! As an incentive, we are giving away a $300 Las Vegas Direct Gift Certificate that can be used towards any hotel if you make a post. The winner will be selected at the end of the year. All you need to do is post something as a registered user to enter.

I just heard an interview with a hedge fund guy. Somehow, he brought up the fact that the state of Nevada will be paying unemployment to professional gamblers. I don't imagine that will go over well with the general public, but may apply to some on the forum.

the cynic in me wants to say it's a ploy by the state to get professional gamblers to report more accurate income

although news articles simply assert that unemployment also applies to those who fill out 1099s, which would include gamblers. However, if it works similar to the SBA loans for those that fill out 1099s, gamblers are specifically excluded

Wait, there's actually another article though that posts his 2019 winnings: a whopping $1600

Here's the caveat at the end after the clickbait title:

"However, the legislation excludes those who have the capability to work remotely. For Konvalinka, that could pose problems, as Nevada has legal online poker.According to The Hendon Mob, Konvalinka has total live earnings of just $1,690 – all of which came at last November’s $400 No Limit Hold’em Double Stack Extravaganza at The Venetian Las Vegas."
