    no it won't
what lesson is that? that if the gov't pays people more to not work than work for a few months once a century during a pandemic people won't work?

when that stops and unemployment is through the roof they won't have trouble finding employees

in a lot of ways im worse off than most people. my autism prevents me from learning how to drive, so i dont own a car as an asset i can use to sleep out of to save on rent. i cant rent an apt, because i have no credit cards or history or proof of income so i have to rent motel rooms which cost more than apts by the month. plus, u can be evicted when apts u cant right now. and i was born in canada but have lived in the US since i was one and my mother is an american citizen. but the govt lost the paperwork where she registered me in 1970 that proves my citizenship, so louisiana is the only state i can get an ID in and i cant travel there right now to renew it, and its expired. so if i move out and wanted to go to a new city, im screwed as to renting a new hotel. id have to use airbnb and how would i get a new casino players card or redeem my room offers?

but with all those horrible problems, and health issues developing from no insurance, (worry im getting diabetes) i guess in one way its a good thing ive always made my living playing poker. for though im slowly going broke at the rate of about $300-350 per week, imagine how much worse off id be if i was just suddenly not getting a check and couldnt file for unemployment. most have zero in savings (well the bottom 25-33% i mean). not the rich of course. and this is why i seen about 1000 cars up the street thursday lined up at the food bank a few blocks away. they were lined up for blocks and not moving. people probably waited hours. i couldnt get any because i had no car, so didnt bother. i never cook anyway, i just use the microwave. thats what u do when u live in a hotel.

i dont have near enough to make it thru this if this lasts for months, and i wouldve had i not blown so much of my poker winnings on blackjack since october. i couldve had over 30k and instead ive only got about 10k im going down to 0 pretty fast if they dont reopen a poker room, and i wont have enough of a roll to play $1-2 NL adequately once they do.

but heres the point im getting at which im thankful for. imagine where id be if i wouldve had less than $1000 on me when this all started a month and a half ago, instead of a little more than $12,000. it made a world of difference, that 12k savings thats slowly going to 0. i guess others do have their credit to use though which is similar. or they start selling off their assets.

what im saying is its a good thing professional poker players, slot players and blackjack players always keep a lot more in cash than the general public. (at least the bottom 25% or so)

There is no reason you can't get a credit card. What you do is get a secured credit card where you make a deposit with the issuer and if you don't pay the issuer will use you deposit for payment.

i tried that once and they denied me and wouldnt let me give them a $300 deposit. this was when i had 19k in the bank. the lady at the bank who called in my application couldnt understand why, when id always had my checking account in good standing and never once overdrawn since i opened it in 2003. i last tried about 4 yrs ago. everything i buy online, like hotel rooms, i just use my bank atm debit card isntead.

I repeatedly offered my parents money but they kept saying they were fine. I went to visit them during the beginning of this and my dad has become increasingly paranoid since he's been furloughed from his new job due to the virus. He ended up stealing a very large sum of money from me and kicked me out of his place. I would have been happy to give them some money if they needed it to make ends meet but I think he was too proud to ask and so decided to do something underhanded. I've been completely disowned. I'm ok financially because I have a large amount of savings but I think this virus will mentally break a lot of people.
Sorry to hear this. The lockdown situation is affecting many people "mentally". Definitely more depression. More drinking. Alcohol sales up 70%. There will be problems that arise from the lockdown unrelated to someone actually getting ill. Our state is one of the ones that just re-opened in part. I can tell that there is a lot of pent up "just getting out of the house" action. Maybe that will help your parents. This is first weekend in over a month, that I have actually noticed true weekend traffic. It may be too soon and it worries me a bit but you can't shut people in forever.

Try a different credit card provider. It's hard for me to believe that they wouldn't let you open a secured card. There are more than one. I am almost 100% sure that you will be able to open one. There are definitely advantages to having a credit card v a debit card, especially for hotel rooms, rental cars. But if you have that much in your account, you won't really experience this issue. Many hotels put a pretty sizeable hold for some on a debit card ($300 to $500) to protect them. There are some rental car agencies that will NOT allow you to use your debit card for a car rental. But once again, if you have $19k in your account, it's much like having a credit card with a $19k spending limit. I still think if you try a different provider, you will find one that will issue you a secured card.

As with the problems that arise, there will also be some good that comes out of this.

Primarily with addictions. Things like gambling addictions, frequently drinking at bars, unhealthy addiction to strip clubs.

For me its eating out. Outside of holidays, I have eaten out almost every meal for almost 10 years. It has really opened me up to making food at home.

For most, they will return to there old ways once everything is back up and running. A few will decide to continue with the changes that were forced upon them to better themselves.

to be honest the only reason i ever really wanted to have a credit card (or just a credit rating of at least average and history) is to able to go to any apartment complex in the country for any city i want to visit for 1-3 months and play in the casinos. and to be able to rent from them without being denied for not having credit. i dont want to rent in an unsafe neighborhood from a private owner, but a nice safe apt in a no crime area. and i dont want to prepay a year upfront either because i usually only stay a short period of time. im sick of living out of hotels my entire life for the last 30 plus years since i was 19. thats the only reason i want a decent credit history. its not to borrow money.

ive seldom bothered to try to rent in a nice apt complex, because i know ill be denied, but the few times i did try (such as when i wanted to live within walking distance of the Peppermill reno) i was told even if i prepaid 6 months or so upfront i still couldnt be approved without a co signor (which i didnt have) due to lack of credit.
