The only way that will work is if you put a glove over your head.

If you're going to Vegas, probably better to go sooner than later as the number of infected folk will increase and there won't be a vaccine until 2021. (Disclaimer: I am not an epidemiologist.)

Agree. However, some procedures could be easily changed which could reduce the risk some what. First, no more holding the cards in double deck games. They can be dealt out of a shoe like 6 deck face up. I know of several casinos that already do this.

Second, losing chips could be put on one side of the chip tray, and winnings hands paid from the other side of the tray. At least, the same few chips would not go back and forth constantly. Any delay will weaken the virus somewhat. On some surfaces the virus only lives for a few hours. Instead of bringing fills to the table, a whole new tray of chips could be brought already counted. Dealer should wash his hands every time he goes on break. Any other ideas out there.

I'm a pit boss at a local casino in Henderson. March 12th it was pretty busy. MGM casinos seem to be closing down on the Strip though, and I think more are to follow.

I also play blackjack in a lot of casinos around town. Orleans, Sams Town, Boulder Station, Fiesta Station-those casinos had a lot of business this last week. But I have chosen to stop playing and am off work for the next week because of some time off I had planned. Not sure when I will go back out. Tough to say when the risk is worth the reward. I'll probably still go to work as a pit boss though when my week vacation is up, unless I'm laid off by then.

ChobotsRobot, welcome to the board. I hope you can share some of your experiences with what it is like from working both sides of the tables. You could hopefully put a whole new perspective on a player's education.

I think locals will play local, unlikely to go to strip, pay for parking, mingle with out of town Asians in casinos. Strip casinos will likely get fewer visitors and hurt. Maybe downtown too.

if they had any sense, strip casinos should waive parking fees, announce all BJ as 3:2, match rules of the station casinos and other off strip ones.

I like the idea of screening patrons using thermal imaging in the surveillance cameras. Wynn is doing it and is able to detect if they have fevers over 101 farenheit. Do that, waive the parking like you said, loosen up the comps-that would probably help business. But who knows. A lot of uncertainty still with how bad this might get.

Sams Town was wiping down the tables and seats about every hour or so. They even had us get up out of our seats. I thought it was a good idea.

Cleaning chips once a night would be nice. Probably wouldn't add more than fifteen minutes to the closing procedure. Sure, that is a lot considering how many games we close a night at a lot of places. But if patrons saw the casino cleaning the chip they would be more willing to play.

Considering though that major sports leagues are shutting down I can see casinos following. It just really depends probably in the next week how bad or better it gets.

All of these attempts though at keeping the virus out of the casino are probably futile up to a point though.

Casinos are now cleaning chips. The chip cleaning business is booming.

The cheques are only one part of the equation. The table surfaces are never disinfected or actually "cleaned". If someone spills a drink, someone from the floor will blot it out but not actually clean the table.

If you can't see the germs, I guess they don't exist. That's the thinking.

Couldn't they install UV lights over the rack to continuously sanitize the chips?

“It’s just something else that people are touching,” he said. “I don’t think it’s a bad idea to wash the chips every once in a while, but the chips aren’t something magically dangerous.”
