When they are crazy like that, what would you suggest? Wait till 10:00 p.m., drive around near cheap motels, hope they will give you a room (rather than have one empty?

Aint going but the flight was super cheap going on Tuesday or Wednesday, returning on Saturday or Sunday plus I was bored, had time.

For many of us folks, married and with a life outside Blackjack, a couple of other issues get higher priority when planning trips. The wife and kid, whether I am needed is one, any sibling or friend gathering is another (wedding, BBQ, etc.), at this time of year, weather is another (getting to and from airport).

If the above is met, then flight prices are checked. If available at reasonable cost (under $150 RT for a 3 day trip), then hotel comps or cheap rooms, followed by rental costs factor into making a decision. Basically, if I can manage all expenses for a 3 day, 18-20 hour playing trip, or roughly $500, I will make the trip.

I try to get costs for a 3 day trip to $400 or under, will accept $500.

As a recreational counter, I am okay with breaking even, up $3-400 and it’s a good trip, between $500-2000 is excellent. In the past, $2k up and I used to go into “preserve my win” mode and quit playing but my mentors here disabused me of that idea so the compromise now is that I keep playing and if I start losing, I quit when Ai am even if I had been up $2k on a 3 day trip.

Zee, you should read the new Colin Jones book. It's full of stuff about win preserving ;-)

I am still pouting, wont buy his book since he banned me from his forum for suggesting that making a living off Blackjack is hard.

I'm also quite sceptical about some of the content, but have read only the first half so far (about 120 pages), and am going to write some thoughts on it when I'm finished.

I got it from the library. Knew I wouldn't want to add a newbie-oriented book to my BJ library...

Zee, here is your solution for your Las Vegas trip. Fly into Las Vegas as planned, but don't get a room. I believe you always rent a car. So play Vegas as usual and then drive to Laughlin to stay which is about a hour and half drive from Vegas. Hotel rooms are dirt cheap in Laughlin, and if you have Total Rewards card probably can get a comped room at Harrah's. I'm still getting free room offers and free play offers from Laughlin casinos even though I haven't been there since 2017. It will give you a chance to see and play some in Laughlin. Next day drive back up to Vegas. Sure beats driving around trying to find a hotel room.
