This is absolutely not true in many bigger places. I regularly play where the PB does not even look when I drop extra $ on the table. The dealer just calls it out and often nobody hears them or cares much. Often the dealer does not even call it out. it's small to them and it looks like you are losing. If you show up at the table with chips they often don't even know how much you came with.

I had my biggest shoe EVER yesterday. I suddenly had a pile of chips so big it was ridiculous and it only took about 10 minutes. The pit boss cruised by once the dealer shouted "doubling 20!" and started paying me off with black chips. She asked the dealer where I came from and she just shrugged and said "I don't know, he was here when I rotated in". The stack size freaked her out. The phone was picked up and I hammered out the rest of the shoe at max bets. The dealer kindly pointed me to the nearest exit after the shoe ended and I tipped her accordingly. I'll let that one cool off for a few weeks.

My Rules (in major US casinos):
Initial buy-in proportional to the table. Usually ~$300 on $10-$25 min tables. Bringing mixed chips is even better.

Additional buy-ins look like steaming. You often lose as the count rises, so it's a great time to load up just as the count is getting good.

Play perfectly with as many deviations as you can master, they can often make you look dumb. A few of them are blatant such as splitting 10s or doubling A9. Personally, I don't split 10s but I will double anything and everything I can. Have stupid voodoo reasons for doing it ready for the spectators.

Bet correctly, but change up the pattern to be confusing. You can't hide the range, but the range can look more natural or random. I can get away with 40:1 intermittently.
To preserve the store, leave after a shoe with lots of max bets or a big win. If you don't care, then just hammer away.

Rathole where possible to minimize the stack. Move tables if you need to.

Don't cash out enough to get a punitive ID check due to CTR policy. I keep it under $3k and sometimes under $2k. Save chips for another day if you need to.

    Good post
Most pit bosses will have no clue the count is high when they see me going into my pocket for a 300-400 rebuy all in

    It looks like your chasing

There is absolutely not reason to buy in for a lot
In some cases not even for your max bet

I like to be able to quickly move tables as well in shoe games

The guy who buys in for 2,000 isnt going to be able to do that easily ever and he will haven't plenty of trouble the times he wins/breaks even and is cashing out a lot of chips

CTRS are another reason for a low buy in

Buying in for 2k and betting 10 dollars looks like you're an amatuer counter
    Nobody does that normally

the place you're playing in sounds fun!

    I am chasing......a profit!

Good point about moving tables. If you have a small stack it’s easy to bounce without coloring up.

My home joint is not so sweaty but I can’t push it too much. The fun is actually the encounters with crazy players or crazy luck. I journal each session afterwards to make sure I remember key lessons or facts.

Yesterday, in my other local joint, I had one hand of 7,7 vs 2 in a positive count. I wound up splitting to four hands and doubled two of them. I drew another 7 but couldn’t split. I slowed the whole thing down for drama and then asked the dealer if I could take a picture. Nope. After all that the dealer drew small cards for 21 and I lost the whole mess just as the pit boss came over. I told him the dealer deserved a raise and he walked off happy. Oh yeah, I also ran out of red chips on that round so I just started betting two stacks of green chips. How convenient.
