    Hurricane Help

Does anybody know of a good help relief organization to donate to for the poor folks in the Bahamas? I just want my donation to go to the Bahamas and not in the USA. I normally don't donate for hurricane relief. However, I did donate to the Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina, but then the Red Cross has pestered me for years for every hurricane that came along. Yeah, I did get a couple of emails from the Red Cross asking for donations for hurricane Dorian, but I'm not sure they are the best to donate to if you want your donation to go to the Bahamas.

I can't imagine what that living hell in the Bahamas was like for 36 hours. I predict the death toll will be in the thousands unless the government tries to cover it up.

Speaking of hurricanes, my sister lives on the outer banks of NC not too far from Morehead City. Like a true Yooper, I believe they battered down the hatches and rode this one out. Their plan was to stay if the hurricane was a #1 or #2, but leave it was a 3, 4, or 5. I think last year when hurricane Florence hit, it was a #3 and they rode it out. I think they regretted that, but made it thru okay. I just got word an hour ago they made it thru Dorian okay. Three trees in their yard are down, but none hit anything. I assume they stayed since it was only Cat #1.

Just Google Bahamas Dorian relief fund. There appear to be several choices.

Damn, there are all kinds of charities out there. I went to Charity Watch for Hurricane Dorian relief and found this list.
    https://www.charitywatch.org/charity...ian-relief/115

I'm impressed with All Hands and Hearts - Smart Response rated A+. Notice Red Cross is not rated that high. This charity watch even discloses the top salaries of each charity.

Here is what my sister said about Dorian.
"We only had about 5 inches of rain and the ocean only came up to the dunes on the beach. Nothing as bad as “Florence” was. Still lots to do in the yard, but we’re happy we were able to have the fallen trees taken down. The town will pick up all the debris in a couple weeks. In the meantime, it’s all in front of the house lining the road. I can hear lots of power saws running in the neighbor hood."

Pictures of a couple of her down trees.

Hurricane Dorian Relief for the Bahamas Challenge.

I just donated about one third of my last blackjack trip win to the All Hands and Hearts charity for Dorian Hurricane relief. (Hint, it was only a three figure donation.) https://www.allhandsandhearts.org/

Anyway, I challenge all forum members to donate one third of your next blackjack trip or your last blackjack trip to Hurricane Dorian relief in the Bahamas. Many small donations will add up. Give to the charity who you feel will do the most good.

Ok. Good timing. I'm about to take the top off somewhere.

Yeah I agree. I'm a cheap son of a bitch when it comes to charity giving. I don't give very much, but every once in awhile I feel really bad when I see these helpless folks in natural disasters. Last time I felt this way was with Hurricane Katrina.

For about 20 years I was sponsoring a child with the World Vision charity. They kept wanting more each year and towards the end I was giving $30 a month. However, they kept sending me so many mailings that I didn't want. I would get smelly cards from Ethiopia supposedly from the child I sponsored. I wonder how many germs were on these Ethiopia mailings. The postage alone on these mailings was like over $10 and they did it at least a couple of times a year. I finally had enough and told them I didn't want any more cards from Ethiopia and to cut out everything except my monthly statement. It appears they cut off all mailings after complaining several times, and then I quit giving since they weren't even sending a statement anymore. I felt too much money was being wasted with all these mailings.

I saw that most of the cruise lines are donating to the Bahamas for hurricane relief. Of course, they have a vested interest that the islands recover. https://www.cruisecritic.com/news/4416/

On the other hand, I didn't see anything that the Bahamas casinos are doing much. Most of the casinos are in the southern islands and were not damaged. Some have set up relief funds for folks to donate to, but not much from the casinos themselves. I might be wrong on this, but can't find anything. Greedy casino bastards.

Anyway, Forbes mentions two ways to help the Bahamas. Donate and schedule a vacation there. Hope you can take some money from the greedy casinos. https://www.forbes.com/sites/lealane.../#56a0aee4463a

Expecting casinos to do anything to help people is as likely as expecting that from the tobacco industry. Ha!
