Dealer Shows Hole Card When Checking for Blackjack

This one dealer has revealed his hole card every time he checks for blackjack with an Ace up. He lifts the hole card up a little to put it in the reader and you can clearly see if there is paint or not. Non-paint cards are hard to tell what they are. However, I don't think this information is useful because this happens after he has asked for insurance. I can't remember if he knocks the table after asking for insurance. Some dealers do and some don't they just check. I suppose if you are real quick you could say wait and then ask for insurance if you see paint. Might be able to get away with this once or twice, but you would have to act fast. Any thoughts.

Hold your insurance money in your hand, and put it out there when you see the paint.

If you can see even a little information it can help. See the spooking section in Million Dollar Blackjack for some tips on making the most of what you see.

You think wrong. Maybe that's why you're a 30 year red chipper.

Ace makes it harder, yes? I've only had the opposite insurance situation.

Let's say I'm hole carding and the dealer has A5. I'm sure Griffin or Don would tell me the expectation for x vs A5 but I definitely don't know how to play it off the top of my head. If I only get the hole card on Ace, it seems pretty tough.

Relatedly, I once had a HC game on dealer checking X. That was valuable. I'd see a 6 under or 5 under, etc.

    Here ya go: https://wizardofodds.com/games/blackjack/appendix/16/

Norm has a chart, too, somewhere in his millions of web pages.

If all you're catching are HC when dealers are checking for BJ, not a lot to memorize.

I had one yesterday where I didn't double a 7,4 vs dealer 17. Saved me a few units.

Note that that's a generic strategy. In it (which he states is for S17 games) he says to hit AA vs soft 17 but you split* if it's a H17 game.

*May be different for DD and SD games. Don't have Ex. CAA available at the moment.

Newsflash, we already know if the dealer has paint in the hole or not after he checks for blackjack. This info is not useful in the slightest.

The idea was to get an insurance bet out before he puts it in the reader after seeing the paint.

Agree..but if dealer doesn't have blackjack and you can tell at all what the hole card is other than blackjack, then it is very useful for how to continue your hand.
