Ran into this a couple different times. Here is how I tried to stop it - I replied "Thank god you caught that. That would of been terrible getting accidentally paid off". The table will usually laugh and give a weird look to the idiot. Both instances the offender slumped in their chair and left a short while later. Maybe coincidentally, but probably because their stupidity was loudly called out in a non-confrontational way. I only reply if I was the one involved in the fiasco. I've seen short BJ payoffs a few times to other player's or other people getting screwed out of an accidental payoff. I don't bother opening my mouth. Not my problem, I'm only worried about my hands and payoffs.
