Give him a break, we've all been there. I see the irony. I asked about the side bet, because some are countable, and the dealer may have known it was good. In this case, I doubt it.
I've had days when the only bet I win is insurance. It sucks. The irony is that you win when you bet WITH the house.
As for tipping, I think there are legitimate times to tip. At your local casino after a win, for example, is a great time for a toke. In a place where the dealer keeps their own tip, a toke here and there can buy you pen. BUT you have to understand how it impacts your EV, and if it's worth it. If that $8 bought you longevity and better pen, it was $8 well spent. A good rule of thumb for me anyway, is to not tip more than my unit, and only tip if it gets something in return.
I always find it odd when people tip after a winning hand. They then end up with a losing session too. Kind of like tipping a waiter when he places the silverware, tipping him again after he brings the drinks, again after he brings in the appetizer, again after entree and dessert and again after the bill.
Why not not just tip after your session, just once? Course, if benefits of deeper Pen or something worthwhile results, then make the exception.
I once shared a table with one of the stupidest ploppies I’ve ever come across. Numb Nuts was rotating his bets between 2x100 and 2x200 a hand, with very very very frequent 5.00 dealer tokes per hand. He was unappreciative of my surrenders.
In any event, after several trips to the ATM, Numb Nuts eventually tapped out to the tune of several thousands of dollars. Dealer tokes amounted close to 1000. Dealer commented about how generous (I was not as generous) their patron was. I replied that their generous patron was an idiot - yeah, used that exact word - see, this is not the only place I use it.
On the similar topic, I once tip one dollar on Luck Lady for the dealer. She got $200 tips. Also see some ploppy let other person play Luck Lady and hit the Jackpot $5,000, he has to pay tax for the other person. (I heard story that the one holding the winning spot don't want to give the winnings to the person playing his spot before. But in the case, it did not happen.) And the newbie doesn't know by giving the casino his social security number, he has to pay someone else' tax in the end of the year.
It is indeed $5 bet 1000x1 QQ/dealer BJ. Because of the incident, that casino no longer pays in full but deduct the tax immediately so it wouldn't happen again. Normally I would let ploppies play my side bet. But because of the incident, I refused to let them to play my Luck Lady spot. Even the odds is so little, it can still happen.
Luck is nothing more than probability taken personally!
