What is the correct play in this unusual situation?

Dealer has a T up and checks for BJ, but puts the cards in the peeker rotated 90 degrees as if it were an Ace. I point this out to the dealer, so then she rotates the cards and checks again and says, "no BJ and we know my hole card isn't a T or A." What to do?

I rationalized that we know there are 3 pat hand possibilities (7, 8, or 9) and 5 "bust card" possibilities (2-6). Given that 5:3 ratio, I stood on my 14. Was that the correct play?

For those short-term results-oriented players, I would have lost the hand no matter what I did. Just wondering if I thought it through correctly.

There’s a 2-9 chart in modern bj hc section iirc.

I would have hit as well, but have no mathematical calculations to back this up.

Pretty sure you should have hit. Yes, a 5:3 ratio, but just because he draws one of those five cards doesn't mean he automatically breaks -- far from it. Way too many of those 2-6 hole cards would turn into a pat hand and make your play wrong.

Based on instinct, 16 i would stand, 14 hit, 15 flip a coin

    Here’s your answer: https://wizardofodds.com/games/burn-20-blackjack/

the correct action is hit 14, stand on 15 and 16.

edit: not sure if push22 would influence the decision or not. I’m guessing not.

    Interesting situation.

I would have approached this as a partial hole-card situation and stood. For reference, the link to my hole-card info is:

Stand is correct. As mcallister3200 mentioned early in this thread, Norm's Modern Blackjack has partial-information hole-card strategies. For 14 vs. X with HC 2-9, Norm says to Stand: see

    Hope this helps!

Thanks, guys. Don't think I've experienced this situation before and probably won't again, so I won't be committing Norm's chart to memory :-) It's like the CAA charts of HC info for card values with rounded tops, etc. In any case, it was an interesting situation.

Doghand, FYI, I also played the side bet we discussed not long ago (and let's leave it at that)...
