I appreciate this is off topic but I felt some of you guys may be gin players too. If so, where's the best, trustworthy place to play online for money at the moment ? Thanks
I have played some gin rummy over the years. Not aware of any online games and certainly not interested in playing against a machine. This game is all about great ability to track cards, insinuate opponent holdings, and read tells on your opponent. If you remove either of these, you are at a much bigger disadvantage.
On occasion, I have played for money.........

I spent a couple years playing Gin, $100 a game 35 years ago. The game is most similar to Poker. As the game is mostly played in private games, and private games normally have terrible shuffles, tracking cards is important as with Poker, which was mostly draw and stud at that time. But, keeping track of discards is far more important. And, there is obviously a bluffing part as trapping someone into a premature Gin is important. Also, as in bridge, don't line up the cards in your hand if you are playing against experts. That provides clues -- unless you are faking.

OK. Thx for the info which has been noted. I've come across a site (ginrummytournaments.com) that actually organises a World Series and they have a link to gamecolony.com where you can play others online. Seems OK to me

This brings up an interesting question. How many of us also play other skill card games? Poker, gin, bridge, whist, spades, hearts etc.? I think this can really help you in single deck. I only side count Aces, but I have a good feel for all of the neutral cards from years of other cards games, and this can help you in some close decisions. The overall gain is probably very minimal, but it also takes almost zero effort after a lifetime of card playing.
Interesting point. I've tried poker numerous times but I don't have the patience. Waiting for others and waiting for good cards isn't for me. Blackjack suits the way I'm made. Low edge but calcuable and very high turnover. Rummy is similarly pretty high turnover, though the edge is more difficult to calculate. Unless you know differently....
On insurance decisions it can be a little more than minimal, but they do no come up that often. Dealer only has an ace on 1/13 hands. Then the neutral cards must be + or -. Then the TC must be close enough to make you change your decision based on your knowledge of the neutral cards. On hit/stand decisions on something like a 13, knowing if there are more or less 7's and 8's can greatly affect your decision, but again they do not come up that often, and when they do, the difference between standing and hitting is often very small. Of course every small edge is valuable, and if you have good card sense you will be making better decisions on these close hands. The biggest benefit is that you will playing the same hand at the same count in different ways occasionally, and this is good for your longevity.
