If you can't convert RC to TC, how do you convert your TC to your proper bet?
I mean - I'm about one more dead brain cell away from having my own parking space, but this is super basic math. "There's 3 decks left, my RC is 8, so my TC is two-somethingorother", The "something or other" is (generally) irrelevant at this stage in your adventure.

This is not always true. We don't count cards, play mostly CSM's, and I can guarantee you that we play with a much larger edge at the game than you do.

Does your answer have any relevance or applicability at all to what the OP asked? Do you really think he's playing with an edge?

The only possible answer to the original question that makes the remotest sense is Buckster's: "Since you don't have an edge in the game, I think you should leave as soon as possible. If it were I, I'd walk away preemptively and not play at all." It is an answer that cannot be improved.

you are suggesting that there can be no entertainment value from for example playing BJ with basic strategy and ceding only a small edge to the house

not everybody who plays BJ with a negative expectation is destroying themselves
the vast majority, probably around 98% of all gamblers, do not get seriously hurt financially by the small losses they take

yes, he's more likely than not to end up negative
so what? if he's enjoyed himself as millions do

people who love scuba diving end up negative in their financials.
    should they stop scuba diving?

there's a great irony in APs looking down on or ridiculing those who don't play with an edge although I'm not saying that was done in this thread
even though it wasn't done in this thread it's done fairly often
sometimes I even wonder if APs see the irony

    the irony is this:
casinos are not going to deal beatable BJ games if only skilled APs show up at their tables

maybe the recreational gamblers should be greatly appreciated by APs
You're correct the OP does (in his second post) say that he's a recreational player. However, he also mentions not wanting to be greedy, and later says that he's just trying to calculate what a good gain is. He considers himself a winner. The advice is tailored to someone asking a strategic question about how to make money.

Had he asked. "I'm a losing player who really enjoys blackjack, how long should my sessions be?" I think we all would have said "as long as you can afford, and it's still fun" by the way this is the same answer I would have given to your scuba diving question.

You post seems you're purposely misunderstanding the context of a conversation just to make a counterpoint.

Thanks for the replies, but I must add (it's probably obvs) that I'm a recreational gambler. I do not use accoutrements such as algorithms, SD or other statistical methods, counting etc. I just use basic strategy and I have been winning quite a bit at various casinos with CSMs that I play at. I was in LV about 18 months ago and did quite nicely there too, playing at various casinos, again CSMs (Strip and downtown), so I'm happy to continue. I'm just trying to be realistic as to what a good gain is.

Philster, since you are trying to be realistic in attempting to find out what a good gain is, you should also ask yourself what you consider is a good loss. No one asked you these questions can you afford to take some defeats in accordance with your betting patterns? Speaking of which do you vary your bet sizes? If you do why? Do you believe in betting trends? If you do, you got this idea right out of your head fast.

Thanks for being the reason why I said ignore the noise. This is noise.

It's noise because he picked a valid count already but you want to start a count debate (like so many others). If it were snobbery, I would have suggested he use my count. I use FELT. If only I could remember who created it.
