    Cold Shoes & Dealers

I have been to a shop six times over the course of the year the first 4 times no issues the next two times I’ve had a dealer change 10 minutes of me sitting down then the deck goes cold.

Am I being parinoid or are some dealers closers ?

    Update - 6 deck games

I was cheated by a mechanic in 1985 and that was confirmed via John Ferguson [Stanford Wong]
I have detailed that incident in the past. Five (5) yrs. ago I met a dealer in Mississippi who performed
extremely impressive cheating maneuvers for me; though he was an off-duty poker dealer. I M H O
there is a nearly zero probability of anyone being cheated via a card "mechanic" in the 21st century.

I remember back to old days, like you said in 1980's and earlier, mechanics were very common. Once you won too much, almost every casino will send them to your tables. Some of them are so bad, it made me chuckle. Even ploppies could tell and say, "he is cheating!" Well, today casinos have ASM. Much smarter of them.

Due to minimal scrutiny, etc. ubiquitous public holdings
(Stock Market), overseen by the S.E.C. coupled with
'cutting edge' surveillance ~ actual cheating by casinos
has become a rarity. It is not only unnecessary, but it
is high risk; although (almost) recent incidents involving
Native American enterprises in California belie the reality.

Just admit that you're a shitty card counter. So quit your bitching about ASM's because we've NEVER been cheated or otherwise by them, ANYWHERE

I have been playing Blackjack since early 1970's. Even after the introduction of ASM in the 1990's, to me the game felt the same until 2012. I strongly feel there is something major happened in 2012. I think ASM getting smarter and developed some anti-TC, anti-Basic Strategy elements. Of course, there always could be other explanations. Like I became senile or Skynet has taken control of many ASMs.

It's not allowed here. There can be no cheating AS M discussions.

You're being paranoid. The chance that you're being cheated is almost zero, and the "fact" that some dealers are "hot" or "cold" is only coincidence.

That said, I think cheating must have been rampant years ago. For example, Humbolt in The Worlds Greatest Blackjack Book spends an inordinate amount of time on table and dealer selection, to help the reader avoid a cheating dealer. He also advocates leaving while up, so the casino CAN'T cheat you to get their money back. I don't think it's prevalent today, as there is much more oversight and it's harder for a single dealer to cheat you dealing from a shoe.

Lastly, when you say the shoe "goes cold" do you mean the count goes negative, or that the dealer seems to never break, or you keep getting stiffs? Negative shoes are common, and the majority of your hands will always be stiffs. To keep it in perspective, the dealer gets a lot of stiffs as well, we just don't remember the six under the ten they flash as they swoop up their cards after everyone else has already busted. We just remember we busted, and the lucky dealer had a ten up.

For amusement, and I think this has been posted before, this is what a mechanic looks like.

Let me clarify, not a mechanic situation

Cold shoe as when new dealer comes in, the shoe goes negative and they do not bust though most of table will.

Likely being paranoid but after it occurring more than once in a short time didn’t know if a shop would send in dealers known for closing down a shoe at a table where one or not AP might be at.

If you're having these thoughts you need to take a step back and figure out what your relationship with advantage play is going to be.

I bet your grandmas think I am hot. Most old ladies at my table like me too much. That is one of my problems playing BJ.

i second that. Counting is easy . The hard part is the fundamental understanding of the concepts of advantage play and meeting it's many criteria for success.
