The Pit Boss Commented About The Big Cards Left In The Shoe!

It was near the end of the shoe. The True Count was 4+. My big bet was in the circle. The pit boss came over and commented to me (in a joking way) about how there must be all faces and Aces left in the shoe since all the little ones already came out!

I went along with his energy, did not resist or act dumb, but rather laughed with him about it a bit and went along & said said "yeah, absolutely! That's what I'm hoping for!" in a playful manner with a smile on my face.

In the moment that automatic type of response from me felt most natural and aligned with the comportment that I usually project when I play Blackjack (the outgoing, likeable & talkative-with-everyone type of character).

It did make me wonder, though: did he know I was counting? Was he not sure so he said that as a test to see how I would react? Maybe he just always says that to everyone?

How would you have reacted? What would you have said? What would you have thought of his comment? Would you have interpreted that as heat or just friendly banter?

I've encountered that. I was ultimately given the tap many visits later. But that was when i would get drunk and count recreationally, doing nothing to hide what I did.

I would have reacted similarly in a more ignorant fashion; "if that means I'm gonna win, heck yeah!". Something along those lines. His comment would certainly have gotten my attention.

I think there's little grey area; he either had no clue, not suspecting you at all, seeing you as the typical jovial loser gambler or knew and did not care. I know we constantly concern ourselves with heat but there are rare occasions where they have an idea about what you're doing but don't much care. Either because the house is packed and your bets/wins are small and the house is otherwise raking it in, or because perhaps the pitboss likes you and doesn't have the motivation to scrutinize you. Maybe you're entertainment on an otherwise boring 8 hour shift.

Remember that some of these folks don't always love their employer and more importantly, they're protecting someone else's money, not their own. And that someone else is raking it in hand over fist while you make a shitty hourly wage.

The note in the player database probably reads (in red type) "Evaluate Carefully."

    You will be toast(ed) soon I M H O. I would make the Over/Under 2 sessions.

These days, given the videos, youtube, forums, resources, a hell of a lot of people count but that does not worry the casino. Its when your bets are made optimally, when you show signs that you have a significant BR to beat them and you are making the correct deviations that you might get backed off. The pit probably knew you were counting. Now, if they see you have a big bet out and you stand on a 15 against a 10 or double an A,8 against a bust card that they may perk up and evaluate you.

    Again
"Z" displays his ignorance. The main criterion for being backed off
is simply lowering and raising your bets in accordance with the count.
You are ignorant and a damn fools, you infect this site with your falsehoods.

Regardless of the fact that Zee does make a lot of bonehead comments, Zee is more right than you on this one.

The real answer is that - it depends on the store. I’ve been backed off under at least 5 different scenarios.
    1. Negative index play making what would normally be described as dumb plays, and known as a strong player
    2. Simply moving bets with the count, where I was an unknown player
    3. Cumulative wins
    4. Can’t break me financially, bankroll too strong
    5. Known as a counter, allowed to play as my play didn’t look optimal (dynamic approach) coming across a shoe (my first one that day) where the moon was in the 7th hour and Jupiter aligned with Mars, resulting in the biggest shoe, with biggest average bets of my career - next visit

So its fact now and not opinion. Grow up. instead of the crap you post about me, why not say what is wrong with the message?

Am I wrong in saying that there are a lot of, perhaps incompetent, card counters (with no BR. No deviations etc.)?

It is you who is being idiotic saying that its moving your bet up and down that is the only criteria for back offs, that deviations, BR, optimal betting does not matter. By that hyou seem to be saying I move my bet from $5 to $10 and back to $5 will me backed off.

You would be right as long as you could cherry pick the stores that would support your hypothesis. However, a random selection of stores, let’s say 100, would negate your short term success.

What store, properly managed, would, in their right mind, back off a player simply because their bets moved with the count. You need to understand that most counters can’t beat the game. Further, those that can are mostly under funded, and thus a bad run of negative variance will transfer those bankrolls, or a significant portion thereof to casino coffers.

The idea that casinos care about optimal betting and if player overbet his bankroll and go bankrupt lacks understanding of how the math works. The casino does not care about given player outcome but they care about the collective number of bets put by any numbers of players in which the casino has a negative edge. It could be one player betting $100,000 or 100,1000 players making $1 bet.
For the OP, the pit boss wanted to tell you that he thinks you are counting but he is too unskilled to be sure. Your answere confirmed his suspicion. Now he will be more confident going to his boss and saying this guy is counting.

Try to fathom. The casinos do not want break-even jerks like Z' playing, taking
up a seat that could be earning them money; as well as occupying their dealers,
    and floor persons.

To a degree, there is merit to your comment. However, for the first few visits, the house doesn’t know if Zee is a “break even jerk” or not. Further, if Zee gave advance notice of his impending visit, the house may have had pre conceived notions of his ability, or lack thereof, and would have given him some breathing space. A bit of bad variance, a quick stop loss by Zee, and the house is happy.

You really should get Zee off the brain.

You give them more credit than I do...lol.

That brings an interesting question. Do casinos generally back off only when you're winning? In my experience, it's about 50/50. Seems to me that if I was a casino manager, and I knew you were counting and getting crushed, I'd let you go until the tides turned in your favor.
