Ploppy bets table min with 50% edge - what just happened???

This happened at my local store a couple hours ago:

Player at 3rd base doesn't place a bet (intentionally) but dealer deals her a first card anyway by mistake: an Ace. Calls over the floor. I'm expecting to see the errant Ace burned, and I'm thankful for the mistake, as the Ace "should" have been the dealer's hole card. Floor comes over and says *she can play the hand if she wants*. To be clear, the floor allowed a bet to be placed AFTER the player knew that one of her cards would be an Ace. She could have bet anything, but bets TABLE MINIMUM. With about a 50% edge!!!! I literally asked her if I could put some additional money on her hand, but she wasn't interested. For those curious, she didn't get a BJ but did win the hand.

I'm trying to figure out why the floor allowed this. This store seems to care a lot about keeping the game moving at all costs. I have several other stories, many of which benefited me financially, where they've glossed over sloppy dealing even as it cost them money to do so. Is a move like this by the floor at all normal?

Still can't believe I witnessed this.

Different stores will do different things. A dealer once exposed an Ace and the pit said it was the next card so I doubled down on my hard 20.

Maybe it was a regular player, known to the pit boss, who loses a lot. That is NOT the way that is usually handled.

it was a mistake, no casino would have that rule, or procedure - fyi, they actually do have SOP/rules, many posted onlne

as for the scavenger play...you say it's "a local" store, so wouldn't advise....what were you thinking, adding the extra $490 to cap bet?....you may as well start splitting tens, too

It is possible that the floor would not have allowed a big bet. It seems like a decent customer service move to give the ace to a low limit ploppy instead of letting the dealer have it. One round, win or lose is not going to make a difference to the house.

Yeah that’s pretty much where my head was. I don’t think that would peg me as an AP - doesn’t take card counting to know that player had a huge advantage.

Funny story : I actually did split 10s there once. Got pegged as an idiot; was good cover if anything (helps that I lost).

Hadn’t thought of that. Player had been mostly playing min all night. I suppose floor might have balked at a table max bet or the like.

It happened to me once when I was playing head to head, that the dealer had an ace up card, without asking if I would insure, he flipped the hole card and that was a ten. I protested, the pit boss ruled on my favor.

of course they will honor this request...equivalent of free bet...i've also had multiple occasions where dealer said they offered, yet myself and other contested that they did not, and we all got our bets back...

I called the floor in because the dealer didn't offer insurance. The floor said it didn't matter because nobody would have taken it anyway. I asked if he was sure about that. He asked if anyone wanted to take insurance. Everyone else said no, but I said I do now and put my bet up. The dealer quickly said insurance closed and paid me. The Floor just laughed and walked away.

It is not about stupidity, it is only fair. In the face of commen law, the house is the subject of advantage, strong; the players on the hand, are weak, underpriviliage. If there is any doubt, the favor would go to the players. There is attorney in this forum, may be he could elaborate.
