I've known literally thousands of smokers. Very few were stupid. (Three, my data set may be different than yours.) Almost all wanted to stop smoking.
Many had difficulty doing so. The major reason is that nicotine is addicting.

Most succeeded in stopping; primarily because the severity of their illnesses scared them enough to realize they had no choice.

The benefits of stopping smoking are significant, including decreasing the rate of decline in lung function, decreasing the risk of cardiac & renal disease, and decreasing the likelihood of multiple malignancies. Even stopping after a smoking related cancer is found decreases the risk of a second smoking related cancer.

Here is a CDC website with some interesting data: https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2...declining.html

I'll find a couple more websites & post them.

Here is a website that has a lot of links to many of the health problems associated with tobacco.

    This.

Claiming that all smokers are "dumb", "stupid" and "weak willed" is the most misinformed and outright stupid thing I've heard about addiction.

Best stick to talking about blackjack Three..

If they were smart they wouldn't need to become a statistic before they took heed of what the stats say. As Forest Gump's Momma so apply said, "Stupid is as stupid does". It isn't like the consequences of smoking is a deep dark secret. If you are ignorant of the statistics that speaks volumes about how smart you are. If they took heed and tried to quit before they became a statistic, then they are smart. If they failed they are weak willed. I am very strong willed. If you read my experience of quitting after about a decade of smoking as an adolescent and young adult, you saw my strong will made not smoking easy. But when I was asleep my subconscious still smoked. If you understand that, then you know those that can't control their subconscious urges with their conscious willpower are weak willed by definition.

Would you say it is stupid to put a bullet in a revolver and spin the cylinder and put it to your head and pull the trigger? Smoking is basically the same thing. That is why it is a stupid thing to do. Stupid is as stupid does. If I see people doing stupid things it does't make me think they are smart. The more stupid something they do is, the harder it is for anyone to think they are smart. There isn't much of anything dumber than smoking. A smart person doesn't make it a lifetime habit. Stupid is as stupid does.

As I pointed out, I said they are stupid OR weak willed. Anyone can be dumb enough to start at some point in their life. It is the lack of taking control back from the monkey that either makes you stupid OR weak willed. The monkey is one of the strongest when it comes to addiction but it is no match for a strong willed person. I know when a smoker that isn't courteous about not smoking around others leaves most people are commenting on how stupid and inconsiderate that stinky person is. When women smoke most men would never consider marrying them. They might have a "good time" for a while with them, but that is all they want. People are often not considered for jobs that require intelligence if they smell of smoke. As this poll shows, despite casinos being full of weak willed stupid smokers fighting another addiction. The AP's overwhelmingly don't smoke. Who are the intelligent people in the casino. Those that lose more than they can afford to lose and don't have the will to quit coming back or those that win money at casinos. I just call them as I see them.

    Three,

you are very knowledgable about blackjack, but when it comes to social issues such as addiction you haven't the slightest clue.

From your logic, all who indulge themselves in some form of pleasure are weak willed or stupid. Those who crave ice creams or gourmet also lack self control for not being able to lead a simpler life.

Nothing is necessary in life, but those who consume nothing are found in graveyards. Then again, those who consume would also be dead sooner.

I gamble so that I can make enough to smoke regularly. And I smoke frequently to be able to think about my game relentlessly.

I'm weak willed. I can't stop firing away at a sick pen game even though they asked me not to.

Sounds like a vicious cycle. All I know is when I am seated at a table with a smoker who has a tendency to light up quicker the heavier his/her action gets, I think, what an insecure, selfish dumb asshole.

That is pretty much what everyone thinks of inconsiderate smokers.

So you are allergic to tobacco sin or smoking sinner! Thou shalt hate the sinner and not the sin?

Why wouldn't Americans ban all kinds of fire producing arms? So inconsiderate of innocent lives.

    Vicious cycle, again?
