    Lousy dealers

Is it just me or is the quality of blackjack dealers these days going downhill? In years past I seem to remember most dealers being fast and accurate but since I have gotten back in the game after a 10 year layoff I have played with a lot of dealers who:

Will stop in the middle of a game to discuss ploppy logic with the players, "If you would have hit he would have busted but they would have won, yada, yada".

Pitch the cards off the table with alarming consistency.

Cannot add the cards in their own hands without taking what seems like forever.

Make a lot of payoff errors in the house's favor.

Tear the cards getting them out of the shoe.

Stop dealing to listen to announcements on the house PA system about slot jackpot winners.

Stop dealing to converse with people about outside interests, even if the people are walking down the aisle and not playing.

I wonder if the proliferation of so many casinos nationwide has made finding enough qualified dealers difficult, or if there is not enough dealer training or what? This sort of stuff happens everywhere I go lately.

I have noticed that dealers have gotten slooooow. Sometimes I forget the count it gets so bad. And I have seen them stop a game to discuss something.

It's not the dealers. It's their bosses. Casino employees, from top to bottom, tend not to be very bright people. If they were, they'd be doing something else where they get paid more.

    Mofungo,

I would suggest not letting things of this nature get under your skin at the table,,,there must be something positive taking place or you would not be there,,, one would think. If you allow frustration and anger to enter your mind, while at the table, this is very negative and may be the time to take a break.

For me, I try to look at these instances as entertainment, marvelling at the human situation, condition, what have you, (most of the time).

    Best,
    Ouchez

Ouchez, at some point you need to take all the advice you've provided (e.g. to me on the most important thing about beating a game) and compile it into Zen and the Art of Blackjack. You could move a fair few copies.
"Wait a minute. How do you beat someone to death with their own skull? That doesn't seem physically possible." "That's what Jimmy kept screaming: 'This doesn't seem physically possible!'"

I am patient but when I get out I want to get some hands in. Day trips can become marathons getting up in the middle of the night to play before dawn and hop from casino to casino up and back so I hit different shifts. If you play for 15 or 20 hours with only short breaks you don't want to be waiting a long time for hands to be played. The whole day is a race to hit the casino win tolerance and move on to the next up and back down the line. If things go well the day is short with a bunch of max wins. Days that are more of a struggle can get very long. I am usually home within 20 hours of when I left. The last thing I want on a day like that is an agonizingly slooooow dealer.
This is exactly how I play and some times i wonder if it is worth it...it's hell on the mind and body. I have noticed dealers are more talkative and will try and have conversation about any thing. A few times during play the dealer will be talking to a player before me and slowing the game I will just loudly say I"LL HIT or I"LL STAND the dealer will see there holding up game.
While playing the dealers that try and ask me questions to strike up a conversation will get one word answers in a way that says I dont want to talk. Yesterday I had a dealer that did not talk much but took a while to add hand totals. You could see that lots of small cards was a challange for her.

This could turn out to be a positive. If it takes her a long time to add up the cards, she is probably prone to mistakes.
