Hopefully being courteous enough to Don to thank him for going to the trouble of explaining this because of me is not considered mindless drivel. He didn't want to go to the trouble but felt it needed to be done. Again. because of me. The least I can do is thank him and let him know I understand and will fall in line with convention for the sake of conversing effectively even though I think things would be clearer if RoR had adjectives to make how the term was being used was clear. If courtesy has become to be seen as dribble, that speaks volumes about the depths the people that think that have sunk to in this country and this forum.

Well said, and correctly put into perspective.

You know, this actually brings up the potential for an interesting sub thread.
What do we do with the proceeds if our efforts. Are we playing to make a living, to supplement retirement, add have fun funds, etc., etc.

I can say that my revenue generating time is limited to travel trips. I can also say that hat I've been on quite the long term burner considering my limited play time.

I've also made jokes about the house vig, paid to the wife - so what does she do with her cut. She spends so little of it on herself. Yesterday, she, along with the other set of grandparents, took 3 of the grandkids, 5 and under, to an indoor playground with phenomenal kids attractions. Adults, of course, get in free, but it sure costs for the kids, and house vig took care of that bill. Afterwards, I joined them at McD's, after I put in a gruelling 2 hours of work time. Happy meals abounded along with a the normal adult type selections. No house vig for this, since my wife offered to have me take care of this, so I spotter her a c note, and I even got he change. So, even without providing value from advantage activity, good use can be generated.

I have not yet dipped into retirement funds, and I confess to much lower employment earnings, likely as a consequence if my gruelling 6-8 hour work week. The converse is of course, that considering the monstrous hours expended, earnings per hour are pretty ridiculously high, so, even without using advantage funds for that, it's nice to know the availability is there.

I'm just about to head out for a kosher for Passover lunch, likely at Boston Pizza, during which I'll contemplate my next 2-3 trips. I'll be searching for flight sales to various locations, as well as potential dates fir my go to city, which I'd prefer to leave alone for a while. Of course, any trip has to take into account booked personal dates.

So, for those in bankroll building stage - are you reinvesting all profits? For those of you with established rolls, how are you dealing with it.

It depends on how you define value. If you define value as only building things than you're right, neither a casino or an AP adds any value to society. If you define value in this way than that means sports, movies, opera, concerts, etc add no value to society. Btw, most people don't define value in this way. They see entertainment as adding value to their lives.

If value is defined as entertainment, then your answer is only half right. A casino adds value to society while an AP does not. In general, people spend money on things they believe bring value to their lives. More money is spent on gambling and casinos than in all pro sports and movies. I know many people who enjoy casinos and see them adding value to their lives. Do casinos destroy some people's lives? Yes, the people who don't know how to gamble in moderation.

But isn't this also true with alcohol or anything else that is taken to the extreme? Most people see alcohol as bringing value to their lives, but this doesn't mean alcohol hasn't destroyed many lives.

I know this view of casinos probably isn't popular with this audience since most here don't go to casinos for entertainment. I'm just reminding everybody that casinos are a for profit business that is selling entertainment. In this space, they add a lot of value to people's lives.

I add value. I take money from the casino and distribute a portion back to it's employees.

Good come back! Made me laugh. I do the same. I'm a fairly generous tipper.

Three you still are missing the point, in the best case possible you would only be able to find a similar circumstance between two players. You would still need plenty of adjectives just to separate the differences between the both of them. As far as trying to relate ROR to an entire BJ community there is not enough adjectives in a Dictionary.

No disrespect intended, but seriously, just to whom were you being courteous? Everyone else understood Don's explanation.

Casinos add value. They employ unskilled people that would likely otherwise be funded by us taxpayers in the form of Welfare.

Casinos also pay a lot of tax and hefty licence fees and this money goes straight into the public purse.

I remember the old illegal casinos that used to exist before licenced casinos became a reality. They were generally set up along ethnic lines and were always being raided and shut down by the police. Today, this gambling is done under proper supervision in a safe environment. My local house of chance employs around 3000 people, full and part time. Unfortunately, some patrons do exhibit problem gambling behaviour and this usually stems from some life event that didn't go to plan. They believe that a big win will fix their problems but in the vast majority of cases it just puts them deeper in the hole.

Don went to a lot of trouble to do that. He did it for me (even if to just get me to stop posting about RoR) and perhaps some others. The least I can do is thank him for his efforts and let him know I understand. I don't know why you think showing gratitude when someone goes out of the way to help you is wrong. He didn't help me understand RoR any better but he helped me understand how to communicate with others more effectively when RoR is the subject, whether I am the poster or the reader. We should all be grateful for that.

Not entirely true, some of the money in Vegas goes for carved out special interest. Check out the resort fee.

While you may view this as a good thing, I believe it contributes to a lack of fairness in policies, laws and their application due to the preferential treatment of the casinos.

Get some experience dealing with the Gaming Commission for a real first hand understanding. Read the Nevada gaming laws regarding chips and get your eyes opened.

All joking aside, Three I think you are extremely knowledgeable on the game of Blackjack, and the community is far better off because of the contributions you have made in the past and the posts you currently make. Sometimes when you relate that knowledge to the board in a post some of its meaning can get lost in translation. Which is very unfortunate because I am sure that I have missed out on plenty. As we know not everyone can write in the same manner as Stanford Wong. If you could relate words as clearly as him, and you needed help and a place to live, I would gladly give you my spare bedroom until you got back on your feet.

I was referring to Australia. We don't have resort fees here and while the current system may not be perfect it is a lot better now than in the past. I've also had experience with our local Gaming Commission both as an advisor and as a player bringing a case against a casino which I won. I can't speak for Las Vegas or the rest of Nevada as I don't live or play there.
