    Casino road trips

There was a post in another forum about the best casino road trips. It linked to an article detailing some places that had decent things to do between them for vacation. Some friends and I are taking June off of work and driving a van across the US. We'd like to hit up some casinos along the way.

What are your favorite casino road trips? I count, they don't, so preferably places that are decent fun for non APs too.

I can't say what is between casino destinations, but Tahoe is really a cool and unique ecosystem. There is boating and fishing the crystal clear lake. Hiking the unique environment. Skiing in season. Horseback riding through the countyside. Other places that I have been that I really enjoyed are New Orleans and Biloxi. Biloxi might be the best for AP play. I like both Biloxi and New Orleans for the local food. You won't find that in the casino restaurants. New Orleans also has great music. Both Biloxi and New Orleans have swamp tours. Biloxi being on the coast has good fishing. We went sailing there, which was also fun. I been to Reno but there wasn't much there to do. Maybe Moses can recommend something as if you are hitting Tahoe you will go right by or through Reno. I am sure you know about Vegas and the surrounding desert attractions. The casinos in Michigan are separated by some beautiful parks. The Great Lakes are also nearby. The Baltimore and DC area casinos are close to Calvert cliffs if you like beach combing for fossils. The Chesapeake Bay is right there for boating and fishing. The Eastern Shore (Delmarva peninsula. Named because it is partly Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia) is a sportsman paradise. Most of the other places I have been I don't know what else there is to do. I mostly just played.

What types of things would your group enjoy doing?

Oh man, New Orleans would be really cool. We're in PACNW/BC. Heading up to Vancouver to pick up one of them and then heading south. From there maybe hit Tahoe and then New Orleans. Any suggestions for our time on the east coast/ New England area?

We all like outdoors stuff, adventuring. For gambling, 2 of them are craps players and one just plays slots (I've tried reasoning with her). Oh yea and my best bud that is going with is a huge sports fan so I'd like to try and stop off to see some baseball games where we can.

Last summer my siblings and I crewed an old Americas cup winner in Newport RI. We raced another Americas cup winner. That was cool. At one point, raising the sail, we had three of us on the line with a total of 8 stents between us. No fatalities were reported.

I would prefer to post gaming info off the public forum but I can clue you into some really good games.

What you can do outdoors depends on when you are planning to go through the NE.

The Outer Banks of North Carolina are really cool. Kind of like the Tahoe of the East Coast. Most of it is National Seashore that is undeveloped. If you have a 4 wheel drive you can drive on the beach. Fishing is unreal most of the year. The Gulf Stream laps the shore coming up from the south and meets the tail end of the Labrador Current from the North. The convergence of sand being pushed north and south from opposite directions create a massive sandbar that where above the water is Cape Point. Underwater it extends 15+ miles out and pushes the Gulf Stream well offshore. They have hang gliding at the dunes where the Wright Brothers first flight occurred. I don't think it is a great place to hang glide but many people do it. When I go hang gliding I look for higher places with topography that makes updrafts. There is always a good breeze blowing in the afternoon. The mornings usually start pretty still until the sun driven thermals get going. For an outdoorsman it is a mecca of varied things to do. A real surf hot spot but the ocean doesn't always produce the waves you want. The sound behind the barrier islands is huge. Its dimensions are on a scale unseen elsewhere on the East Coast. Sustained winds can push a lot of water around. North Carolina has a couple casinos in the far western part of the state. That is nowhere near the Outer Banks.

The Indian museum at Foxwoods is pretty good. I would make sure I stopped in there for a visit.

Once you hit Maryland casinos abound in every state. Pa has some of the best BJ rules in the country but those rules are common in many of the other NE states. Coming up I95 from the South will keep you to the Eastern part of the state which is good. New York has plenty of new casinos. As does the rest of the coastal states heading up the East Coast.

For that matter the Aquarium in Baltimore is one of the best in the world. The Orioles and Ravens play nearby and so is the Horseshoe casino. Maryland Live Casino is maybe 20 minutes south from there.

The Smithsonian in DC is a must see but no matter how much time you devote to visiting it, it won't be enough. The place has like a half dozen gigantic museums. You could spend a day in each one without seeing everything. But you can walk from any one to any other museum. There is the new casino on the Potomac River next to DC that is massive. I think its called the MGM National Harbor.

Wow, thank you! It sounds like there is more than enough just on the east coast to last us the month.

I would skip going way down south especially since you are starting out from so far north already. I would look at coming across the country on I-80. You can hit Thunder Valley, Lake Tahoe, Reno, Wendover casinos. Maybe go up to Rapid City and check out Mount Rushmore. Go up to Deadwood and play a little blackjack there. Then I would probably check out Missouri casinos. Might want to head north along Mississippi River and do some kayaking or canoeing on beautiful St Croix river in WI.

Western WI has some good casinos. Might want to go north and head across the Upper Peninsula of MI. There is Pictured Rocks National Lake shore in Munising https://www.nps.gov/piro/index.htm Then head south across the big Mac on your trip east.

Here is some casinos along I-80.

    Hi narrowpath

Did you take your planned trip? I have often thought about doing the same trip from Vancouver.

Day 1 - NW Washington Stores - Silver Reef, Skagit, Swinomish, Angel of the Winds, Tulaliup, Quil Ceda, Muckleshoot, Emerald Queen - end up in Tacoma
Day 2 - Drive to Klamath falls - Try Kla-Mo-Ya casino??? (never been)
Day 3 - Drive to Reno
    Day 4 - Reno Area
    Day 5 - Tahoe
    Day 6 - Reno

Then I have mixed feelings about going Winnemuca-Elko-Wendover, or going to Las Vegas

If it was a fall/winter/early spring trip I would probably go to Las Vegas for a few nights, then go to the gulf coast.

In the late spring/summer i would probably go through Wendover to Colorado and South Dakota

I would be very interested in how your trip went.
